Bob, guys, REALLY appreciate the nice compliments, thanks so much! It has been a long time coming, but we got a sweet job, and you guys had a big hand in it. Ten heads are better than one, this boat is a culmination of ideas from all of you, so it really is "our" boat.

It was a great weekend, and it was very busy, Farley and I barely had a chance to visit. We'd get to work at sunup, stop to eat here and there, at dark we'd quit, have a drink, eat, and go to bed. Superbowl night....we found out later we had missed the best part. We had gone to bed.

Farley did a HELLUVA job. A professional job. Actually better than professional. No shortcuts, no rushing. If something didn't fit to factory spec...we pulled it and did it again. No parts forced. I learned so much just watching. Everything was stripped of salt. All bolts were torqued to spec. New carbs, water pumps, thermostats. Installed Bay Manufacturing five inch lower unit extensions. It took 6 hours per engine to remove the salt infested lower units. They were never pried, buggered up, or banged. This job would have been $1800 easily. Farl, you know this bro...my sincerest thanks and appreciation.

Now she's in the hands of a guy who beats to the same drummer...its GOT to be right. Can't wait to see Bob work the magic. It was great to finally meet you bro...as Lew says "I mean dang...it was just GREAT." What you said regarding the net and friendships is spot-on...man we have a great thing here guys :thumright:

Just got in, so need to spend some time with Carolyn. Best to you guys, thanks for everything, pics a bunch manana.

Thanks and best,

Scott

So here's what I'm thinking, gauge flat wise.  The first layout puts both tachs right in front of the Captain, with the remaining 2" gauges arrayed out to starboard.  Fuel gauge all the way to starboard...

The second layout places the tachs centered, but gives the separation of motors, port and starboard.  Fuel gauge all the way to port...

What say you, Scott?  What say you guys?  Me?  I go with centered tachs and separation...

I like the tachs centered.Maybe use an hour meter as the 4th gauge on the starboard side

Good idea Pete...but we'd need 2.  Unless they make a dual one...hmmmm.....

Two volt meters Bob?  I know each motor has it's own alternator but wouldn't both meters read the same unless they are isolated from eachother and the rest of the electrical system?

I like Petes idea but what about replacing the tachs with one of these, would be my choice

I like the tachs centered, but what about a trim gauges?  Assuming the engines have power trim/tilt, I would rather have trim than temp if I have water pressure.   JMHO

X2!  I like this one as well. That would take a lot less space.

That would also open up space for one of these.

Well, let's look at the voltmeter issue.  Each receives it's 12V+ from it's "own" engine, via the ignition power wire, purple in Merc's case.  Yes, everything on the 12V- side is tied together, but it is the alternator of each engine that is feeding the ignition power wire.  Therefore, if you have an alternator crap out on the starboard motor, or a diode fry, the starboard voltmeter will indicate that via a reduction in observed voltage in the "starboard system", whereas the port voltmeter will read "good"...correct?  A common ground does not bring all the circuits into one big circuit, unless one parallels the batts by moving the batt switches to Both or ALL.

Scott, love the single tach from Flo-Scan, but you'll have to talk to your brother about that.  It's his $$$, after all...

Scotty, these boys are GOOD at spending your money!!!

CJ, I, and many others, feel that trim gauges on an outboard powered boat are...to be honest with you?  About worthless.  Trim by how the boat feels, how the motors react (via the tachs), and if you really want to know where the motors are at in the trim/tilt range...turn around and look!  Sorry bud, Just mine and several others' opinion...
