Alright, just heard back from the guy on THT that Lewis posted a link to earlier in regards to the Garmin 740s.  With a 200/50 shoot-thru ducer, no S & H, $1053.

Spending his money, what else are Bro's for

I'm sneakily following the discussion in between sucking up. Good thinking guys...like the centered tach setup for sure. Like the single "double" tach too, sweet link Scott.

West offers internet price matching thru March 1. Have an internet quote from E-Bay for the Garmin unit, no transducer, $875 including shipping.

Ya'll keep thinking, am digging it here :thumright:

I'll sign the checks

THANKS!

The price isn't bad for that gauge, I'll have to talk him into it, plus it would be one less hole to drill

Scott just saw your post, I figured you would like that idea

I really like the dual tach flow scan unit :-)  That thing will pay for itself in fuel savings.  Bob that's what I thought on the volt meters but I wanted to be sure.  I personally like a trim gauge. Every time I turn around to look at the motor someone standing in the way!   also in time I have learned what indication is good for what situation etc

Scotty, can get the Airmar P-79 50/200 shoot through for around $85, brings you in at $960, save $93....

To be honest with you?  I'd go with the guy on THT...$93 ain't much to quibble over, and they both come from the same place.  I wonder what BOE is selling the two for?

IMO shoot thru transducers are worthless.

Any shoot thru transducer is inferior to a transom mount or thru hull transducer.

Have to agree. I tend to trust my gauges rather than the seat of my pants. The Flow scan and the tach will tell you where the best possible trim position lies. I just like going back to the same angle each time, besides I'm a little fuzzy on the lookin' at the motor thing but then my motor is obscured by the transom insert.

Personally I find that on the rougher days when you actually need to use the trim for comfort  more than fuel efficiency, looking back at the engine to verify trim angles takes your eyes off the water.  I've earned many an ugly bruise by taking a wave wrong when my eyes weren't facing forward.  Just sayin'...

LOVE that twintach!

Hi Bob,
I'm going to need power to the engines at some point to finish my portion of this project. Some Monkey has been messing around with the timing and synchronization on these engines to where they are fully advanced at idle! I suspect the timing arms were removed and the return springs are in bass akwards. I've never seen anything like it. Whats scary is why would someone do this? Scott says they ran; but like :*:. So what is remaining on the engines is to change the gearlube, fix this timing/syncro issue, fire them up and get a baseline idle speed and mixture adjusted until we splash her and I'll only need a couple of minutes of in-gear adjusting. I don't want to be the last hurtle before we splash her if I need to order anything or run into some other issue.
