Traverse City, MI to Indianapolis. 400 miles each way. And my Dakota felt every transmission-straining mile.
very good thing that no one else in the household figured it that way
The Dakota still but just locally. It's a 4x4 with a 4.7l V8. It pulls it up out of the water like there's nothing back there which is really nice. Towing it seven miles or so to the boat launch isn't exactly pleasant but it's safe enough.
I've been there, but I had the Dakota with the 3.9V6, 2WD, and you could definitely tell the boat was back there. I burned the clutch up in that truck pulling my boat out of the ramp/backing it in the yard.

I used to have a company RAM w/ the 4.7, and it was really a fairly powerful engine. I knew the 4x4 Dakotas w/ the V8 were solid tow vehicles, but to hear of one pulling a 245 is pretty impressive.
