4S VS 2S weight, 225 HP...
« on: March 11, 2012, 09:05:54 PM »
Just did a quick check on 225 HP motors, an Etec H.O. and a Yam 3.3L 225 4S...

Etec, 511 lbs.  Yam, 608 lbs.

Kinda like having your 10 year old sit on the transom...and yes, throw in about 7 quarts of oil on the Yam, brings it up to about 618.  Maybe your 11 year old...

Hey Bob, does that mean if you have the 4S your 11 year old has to stay home?

I'm just guessing weight, in regards to kid's sizes...

But all in all, the 4S VS 2S weight thing is a much ado about nothing...unless you're talking a Yam 350...

And look at a Vrod.  662 dry VS Yam's 4S 225, 608 dry.  Suddenly Vrods ain't that heavy...

That depends on the boat!  A VROD would almost sink my 200XF!

Hey guys,
Not sure about new ones but avoid all 2002 to 2005 yammi F225 four strokes! Bad exhaust corrision problems.

Ah yes, the old Yammi exhaust corrosion debacle.  Has been "discussed" to death on THT...

You know what is interesting, Bob?  When I was at Stamas between '00 and '06, I hung and rigged about 350 Yam 225 4Strokes...wonder what their situations are now?

Yes Bob its too bad. Mine was a mess; I had hole in exhaust tube and unfortnunatly pitting on the bottom of the powerhead also. I had weld built up on the powerhead exhaust tube and machined it back down. My mechanic is putting it all back to gether this week. Hopefully i will get a few more years out of it. I have pictures of what the corrosion looks like if anyone is interested.

Yep, you did.  Zinc Chromate primer on there after the fix?  We used a ton of that in aerospace...
