inside the stringers, theres a "tube" or mini stringer that looks to be of something that looks like woven roven glass. while most of the foam around this tube is dry, the tube is soft, like its been wet before. also, it appears to be hollow.  Heres a pic, hopefully what I am talking about is clear enough to see:

OK, after taking some time off from the boat for lots of work (day job) and holiday traveling, I think I have finally finished the glass work on my stringers.

I have a fillet along the joint (stringer to hull), then a 4" piece of 1708 biax, 6-7" piece, then a 12" piece running the length of the joint. The first 4" piece of 1708 was layed in 4-5' lengths that were overlapped by about a foot, but the 2nd and 3rd layer were full length strips. This gives me new glass running from the top outside egde of the stringers down to the joint and then out towards the gunwales about 5-7". Should this be strong enough to be finished with this part of the rebuild. I'm about 190lbs and have walked along the new glass and it feels very solid.

finally got back to work on the boat.
55 gallon tank:

I still have to add bulk heads fore and aft of the tank.

Got all the floor pieces cut and started on the cap piece:


side view of the cap, just a rough fit for now, still working on the slope/curve. Its 18" wide and so far has a 1 1/2" rise to the middle.  I plan to put a piece up with doors/access hatches




Not completely ready to mount any of this perminately yet, but wanted to get the plywood cutout so i could start glassing the bottom side and i want to get aluminum strips to use as backers for the console and tower mounting bolts.  Still have to glass in the bulkeads for the gas tanks and run the fuel lines, conduit for rigging lines, and paint the bilge area before i mount the bilge pumps and seacocks for the livewell. I also plan to fill the cavities on the outsides of the stringers with foam.
Who has and doesnt have the chine spray rails on their 22-2's with deadrise (non flatbacks)? just wondering if those of you who have them are happy with them, and those without wish they did, or are fine without them.

That rear cap is about the perfect rise.  Too much looks silly IMO.

To address your question about rails - I think your hull is a little "drier" because you have a down turned chine built in... but rails will not hurt either way.  On my hull they are a necessity (I think).

I was very satisfied to get the sole pieces cut out and "ready" to go back in. I still have a bit of work to do before I can really place it, but it was nice to see and walk around on for a little while. Thanks MD and Richard! I have been in a 22-2 and didnt notice any serious overspray but the 2 times I've been on one it was smooth so i didnt know if they were necessary. Now's the time to do it though so I may spend a little extra time prepping the outside and remove the black bottom paint and get some spray rails on. I think when i measured from the bow back 14-16 feet seemed to be about where the console would be, did you use the full 20' lenth on each side of yours Richard?

Mine stopped about 4' from the back of the hull on both sides, my hull has a tendency to ride stern high, and bow steer.  I did not want to exacerbate that by adding lift at the stern (rails add a small amount of lift, they act as lifting strakes).

LilRichard-  I've been meaning to call BarbourPlastics to get a quote on some rails.  How much do they charge for 20' lengths (if you don't mind my asking)?

i've been looking into some rails for my AS... one of the customers at the marina i worked at had some very similar to these on his 200 osprey.

they seem a lil pricey but they flex if you "bump" into anything, they stood up to the abuse from the forklifts in the high & dry for many years... nice part is you dont drill a ton of holes into the boat
