Unless you get lucky, it may be the only way you'll get a tank to fit as it should will be to have one made... in which case it'll be aluminum.

I am starting to think that might be my only route at this point.
Thanks GF for the links - will continue to look.

Well, I have decided to go with an aluminum tank after all.  Gonefission had actually found a 45gal poly tank that would fit the dimensions, but I have checked and I can have a 57gal aluminum one made for the same price.  This way I can have the filler neck and sending unit where they need to be.

I need to look at it this way, my 1981 boat will most likely rot away   before the new aluminum tank will.  I plan to order the tank on Monday and should have it by around March 22nd.

Where are you ordering from?  Did you call RDS?  A little out of the way, but might be worth a quick call...

I am going through Alloy Metal Works out of New York.  They made the tank in the 170 for me about 1 year ago.  If anyone wants to know what they charge just pm me.

LilRichard - could you tell me who RDS is and possibly a contact number?  Thanks,

Here you go- they're in the panhandle area.  Ask for Linda in Sales.  You can beat her up on price a little bit... although I might not tell her I sent you or she'll probably hang up on you... I beat her up a little too much.

Hey John,
I had Alloy Metal Works build a tank for my 73 22-2 over the winter and Phil did a really nice job.  I checked around for pricing and for a tank with baffels, he was the way to go.

Took a couple of days off work and managed to get several things completed on the boat.  Finally finished the re-core of the center hatch :!:   Thanks to Gonefission for the complete instructions and tips.  He walked me through it and the hatch came out great :!:   Thanks to Gonefission again and others who gave me tips & suggestions.  I hoped to have several pictures of the process, but the day we had to do the glass work was in the mid 80's.  Wasn't much time to work with as it was.  The only pictures I took was the hatch before the re-core and the plywood fitted in place.

My friend Mike completely re-wired the whole boat.  I think the only things that worked before the re-wire was the gps, depth finder and I think the bildge pump.  Everything works great now right down to the original anchor light

My tank arrived and looks great.  Just didn't have enough time to get in the boat.  I will take some pictures as I get it in place.

Mike wiring the gauges

Here are the mess of old wires pulled

And my daughter Olivia supervising the job :)
