New to me 1992 210 Explorer

Picked up this new to me 1992 210 Explorer in pretty good condition. Little cosmetic things otherwise she’s pretty good. I have a couple of questions.

The transom is wood or composite? The mold / cap on top any ideas  where to get a replacement?

Does anybody have a picture of the cabin of this model? It was kissing the center piece.

Do you guys recommend trim tabs? I notice loaded up and a bit windy yesterday she def leans a bit. Thanks!!

I believe wood was still used in the transom in 92.
You will need to have the transom cap custom made. You can see mine in the photos showing the trim tabs.

Cabin without cushions.


The middle cushion sits in the trough. It is a cushion with a plywood base to support it. The space below the middle cushion usually was used for a porta-potty.

Would not run without them but that's just my opinion.

IMHO, an excellent hull with a good deal of fishing room in the cockpit. While it rides well, like any Aqua, it can be wet.

What is the condition of your fuel tank?

With just me driving seems to drive flat. But when I put a passenger in there’s def a fair bit of lists to the port side.

Also do you happen to have a picture of a splash guard?


I haven’t really investigated the tank yet. I’ll take a closer look at everything when I pull it out for the winter.

I am not familiar with the cabinet on your boat but I have 2 batts in mine. It's a very tight fit (and a PITA) but they fit. I made a control board and added a multimeter to the board so I could check the status of the batteries when camping.

The trim tabs are Bennett Marine. Hydraulic with the pump mounted on the port side hatch where your battery is  mounted. Trim control is located next to the throttle/gear binnacle control. I relocated the battery (and added a second ) amidships (see link in earlier post).

Mine lists also. I believe it is due to a "hook" in the hull after so many years on a trailer. Tabs remove that with no problem.

The I mean that removable plate in front of the motor. Looks like there’s a place for it on my boat

I made the one pictured in my last post. It folds down to allow the motor to tilt up. It also sticks out forward on the bottom to lessen binding of the control cables.

We’ll just took the last ride of the season. Just me in the boat still lists to the port a bit only on plane. I noticed the torque tab on the cavitation plate was set straight abs a bit loose. Not sure if that is the problem or maybe just a small part of what’s causing the list. The bottom on both sides has a slight hook but also 30 years of layers of bottom paint so think it could just be that too. So I think maybe trim tabs is the only solution for next season. I’ll fix the torque tab but I can’t imagine that little thing cause much list 🤷‍♂️

I think I’ll wind up eventually doing the tank. No obvious leak that I can tell. But there is some water in the tank. I have a water separator filter on which I guess will help for now.

There is a small area between the stringers which I believe to be just aft of the tank that seems to be wet and cracking a bit. I didn’t take a picture but I found another picture showing the area I’m talking about. Anybody know if this is structural or a big deal to replace down the road?

That's a shot of Rick's 230. It appears to have a plywood shelf between the stringers. My 210 does not. The keel/hull is exposed in this area. My fishbox sits in that area. I don't believe it is a structural component and can be removed if desired. I don't have it and mine still floats.

Yes that is the bilge in my 230 EX. The board you're pointing to was also cracked and flexed some if you stood on it. I left it and used it to hold a 40 gal fresh water tank. In that pic you should take note of the plastic ball valve either factory installed on the raw water pickup or by a previous owner. When I tried to remove in, it snapped right off in my hands, so if something had slid around back and hit it, it could have been disastrous.
I replaced it with better hardware and pump


Then later added the fresh water tank and pump for that.

Thanks guys! Yeah Capt bob I was reading your rebuilt post and my bilge and fish box looks a bit different then yours. Maybe they changed it a bit in 1992? Looks more like the picture I posted with that little shelf.

But I’m glad to hear it’s not structural. It’s def soft and a bit wet. I’ll either cut it out or just leave it for now I suppose. Thanks again.
