Got the inside of the transom laminated with 4 layers of 1708 last night. About 4hrs and approximately 7-8 rounds of 40oz containers of resin. Next up is to extend the outside stringers to the transom, cap them with a layer of 2408, and core the hull side's with 1/4'' divinycell. The main center section of the hull is pretty flimsy due to lack of structure but also feels pretty thin. It will get a couple layers of glass and the backside of the fuel tank will get a bulkhead.

looks good @Ulysses.  about how thick would you say 4 layers of 1708 is?

I'm pretty happy with how it came out.  :danceSm:

A quick reference I use is that dry 1708 is .044 inches thick. So that would probably give me about 3/16'' thickness on this layup when its wet. With about 6 layers of 1708 you'll get 1/4'' or a little more.

Do you know the measurement from the bottom of the hull to the top of the original stringer? I cut the old ones because a section became completely delaminated while doing some other work around it. I have a note that it was 11” just want to verify so I can cut new stringers out of composite and get rolling on mine again.

Thanks

In a nutshell, there is a factory stringer height (@ center of hull using a level across stringers) range from about 12.25'' to 9.5'' between the in deck live-well aft bulkhead to the transom. Probably a little lower towards the transom (because I measured to about the end of where an in deck fuel tank would be in these photos @ 70'' from livewell aft bulkhead). I think if you made the cockpit depth 16'' (at Stern) you would have more than enough deck height for self bailing with just about any bracket you choose and any number of live wells and locations you decide. I personally like having as much cockpit depth so I plan to raise deck about 2'' using 1'' honeycomb so I should have about 17.5'' to 18'' cockpit depth at the transom. I have to check but the factory height of the cockpit depth is somewhere around 19.25-19.75'' from what I remember. I did notice that there was a good bit of space between the bottom of the factory deck and the top of the the stringers. The outside stringers were not really bonded at all (see post #22) and the bonding material was 3/4' to 1'' in most places so a lot of wasted cockpit depth.

See photos for your use. Hope this helps. I can get better dimensions and clarify anything you need.

Made some progress last night on measuring, cutting, and laying out the hull side coring. Id really like to get this glued in and capped with a layer of 1708 before the summer heat sets in. I'm planning on capping the outside stringers at the same time so it will be a BIG layup (one side per day though).

That helps a lot! Thank you. Build looks good too. I like the idea of coring the hull sides!

I think I will shoot for 16.5-17" of cockpit @ the transom and level it from there after reading your suggestions. Seems like that should do the trick and raise the floor about 2.5 - 3 inches which is what I was originally planning for.

Thanks for the info and pictures again! Great reference points
