Great post Georgie!  Beat me to it, but same thinking, so here's my post anyway:

It depends on how far you want to take it. If you are thinking just the transom....the chainsaw/poured transom makes sense. Later on, if you wanted to tear out the floor and deal with extracting the wet foam in the stringers....the transom is already done.

If you wanted to replace the entire transom....gelcoat, fiberglass, and coriing...the surgery is much more extensive, and at that point with the boat opened up at the transom....you may decide on a full rebuild.

Regardless of which method....it makes sense to leave the outer skin, marine-tex repair included. That can always be ground out, filled, and re-gelled at the end.

Enlarged to 1" hole in each stringer.  Foam was wet, but no water "drained" out of either stringer.  Hole (3/16") drilled in transom a few inches away from drain plug yesterday had a good bit of water staining under it and was wet to the touch today.  Jacked boat up high using a tractor jack...and then watched it fall and almost hit my wife's car.  So did what anyone would do in that situation:  Stuck a bigger rock behind the tire that rolled and jacked her back up

Jacking her up....over the course of the next few days, you should see some action.

Just went and held the shop vac on each hole.  Got water out of all of them.  The drain(?) tubes that go through the stringers...putting the vacuum on the starboard tube produced a big flow of water for just a second, and then couldn't get much of anything else.  Putting it on the port side got nothing but dust.

Also, forgot the kicker:  The bilge pump was screwed in with like 1" #8's, straight into the bottom of the hull (luckily in what appears to be a thickened section) with nary a trace of sealant.  Both of those holes were steady flowing water.  Bilge pump is labeled 1.5A draw, fuse at 2A.  That's either the worlds most efficient bilge pump, or was pretty worthless against much of any water.  I'm betting on the latter.

I'm going to have to start a list to keep up with all of the holes that need attention by the end of this.

Slowly resigning myself to making a spot in one of the garage bays (which mentally signals I'll be working on this more than I'll be using it...else I'd just leave it in the driveway, ready to hitch up).

All good. As suspected, the water is trapped in the starboard stringer.

No biggee.....set her up for several days, and let gravity do the job

:x   Not true!  I've been told by very good authority (buddy's parents' neighbor two-doors-down) that this weekend marks the end of cold weather.

(True story, by the way.)

Like your style son. You've told us your age, which is appreciated, and thanks. My kids are exactly your age. Makes it easier on us old farts. And BTW....my kids are a helluve lot smarter than I ever was. No bunk! :thumright:

Speaking of weather...which I enjoy....tomorrow night, for both of us...lows again in the twenties. This winter....and I'm 58, born and raised a Tarheel....has been the worst in my lifetime.  Consistent cold, below freezing cold, heavy wind, heavy rain, a LOT of ice,  power outages, no heat....and nasty.  Ready for it to get over and done.

Hey Ryan,

We're all optimistic for you.  I'm not there to see the boat, but I'm still thinking you can pull this off without a HUGE mega-dollar rebuild....at the very least you can run her around a while and enjoy her without emptying the wallet.  A few hundred bucks in upgrades never hurt anyone, right??  :eye:

I'm sorry if what I said earlier didn't work.  I think a transom replacement/rebuild and some significant time on an incline with an outlet for the draining moisture can work.  Just calling it as I would for my own vessel given the information you've given...of course I'm broke and gotta focus too dang hard on the budget side, so keep that in mind   :x

Good luck, amigo...

I'm having a little trouble visualizing this...the bilge pump was screwed directly into the bottom of the hull?  Into solid fiberglass?  That is thick enough to hold a 1" screw?  And water is streaming from the holes?  Something sounds amiss here....like there is a void in the hull or something....

Edit:  thought about it for a few minutes...does the 19-6 have the same type of drop-in stringer system as the old 22-2's?  If so, it may have separated from the hull, allowing the stringer space to communicate with the area where the bilge pump was mounted.

Some pictures:

Pie plate with new cutout traced out.  Centered over keel, positioned fore/aft such that it just clipped the back of the existing 4" hole:

Tools/materials:

Done (sorta...haven't sealed/drilled/screwed/etc since I'm actively working in the hole...want every inch I can have open):

Not sure if paint will take to that cover, but if I can find some that will, I'm getting a pint of "Baby :*: Green" to make it blend with the decks, of the same color

Port stringer:

Where deck/deck "gutter"/transom come together.  Pretty sure was holding camera upside down. What's up with the loose hanging fiberglass that looks like its been that way for 40 years?:
