got catfish?
« on: March 12, 2012, 04:38:34 PM »

This 120 pound, 5 ounce beast is a new state record for blue catfish! Using chicken gizzard on a big circle hook and 40 pound line, John Nichols of Tuscaloosa pulled it from the Holt Reservoir in Tuscaloosa County over the weekend.

So what do you do with it now (besides breaking the record) - can you eat it?

Absolutely Rick:

Steak out the catfish, soak them in water and baking soda....in the meantime, bring to boil a large pot of water with 4 smooth river rocks, scrubbed.

Add onions, bell pepper, mushrooms, tomato paste, and stewed tomatoes. Season to taste.

Add the catfish, stew 20 minutes. Strain out the fish and veggables, and eat the rocks

Yep.  Tried to eat a 40+ one time out of the Coosa River in Alabama.  About halfway through the cooking we decided to order pizza.  Smelled like canned cat food.   :pukel:

5# and under are all that I would keep.  The best are one to two pounds.  I do love me some good fried catfish though.

I would like to see those Okies noodle around the Mobile Delta here.  'Bout 50/50 chance they would come up with their hand in a gator's mouth.
