In Cooler / Console Tackle Management
« on: March 12, 2012, 09:48:09 AM »
Okay so as things are getting sorted out with my 175 and I have some semblance of a plan for the necessary work to get her up and running, my next thought is of course....The fishing

So I need some kind of tackle management.  I'm not installing a leaning post (for now at least), and I want to leave as much usable space as possible.  I'm thinking I want my tackle in either the cooler seat, or seat ahead of the console.  Primarily I need storage for large striper lures, we're talking 4" and up, as well as soft plastics, bucktails etc., and then storage for my leaders / bottom fishing rigs where they won't get tangled up.

What kind of setups are you guys using? I've seen uber expensive pre made leaning post type storage lockers, I've seen hook racks that can go along the outside of your cooler / box and leave everything dangling, and of course plenty of people use separate tackle boxes.  None of those options I like really.  What do y'all thing?

Jimbo,
This has been discussed much, here is a thread from my post a while back. I did not do a built in tackle center.

I do what you don't like.

Behind the back cushion of the CC, I have three trays for my favorite all around artificial lures.  Other than that, I keep all my tackle in different bags in my garage.  Each bag represents a different target or style.  When I decide I am going to fish for a certain type, I select the necessary bags and off I go.  Being able to get them of the boat, reminds me to rinse them off for their longevity.  With the limited amount of storage, I am selective of what I keep on board.

As for your larger lures, I recommend the Shimano Blue Wave.  You can hose off the entire bag at the end of the day - it's got great drainage:

This is a good idea.  I also found this today, which seems really nice.

I will be putting one of these in my seat ahead of the console for all my lures, and terminal tackle..

I have to figure out a system for my baitfishing pre made rigs and misc hooks.  Probably put a drawer in where my stereo used to be on my console.

Great website btw.  Devoted to tackle containers
