17 motor recommends

Have my 17 stripped down for cosemetic work etc.
But starting to look for motor.
Any links or recommends.
Looks like the 90 is the way to go?
But what length?
Live on a creek that goes out to Tampa Bay & draft is "somewhat" a concern at times.
Looking at a jackplate too.
I aint no speed demon & their ain't no fuel close!! jug it in

90hp merc or yamaha 2-stroke with a 20inch shaft should do it
Run it without a jack plate and see how it goes

I have a 90 on my 170, but there are times when I wish I had a 115.  Your boat has a 27 gallon tank...yes?

I should have added that a jack-plate adds some weight and these 170's are weight-sensitive at the transom.

I worked on a Mako 17 Classic with an Evinrude 150 once...yeah, she was fast...

Ran a mako 17 with a 140 suzuki as a kid, went too fast and ended up cracking the stringers and hull. she got real scary at WOT she would tail walk bad. My 1720 actioncraft I just sold had a 150 opti and was a rocket 60mph,and  never got out of control at high speed. Don't know how a 150 would be on a 17 aquasport, be fun to it try though.

Ran a 19-6  '82 Osprey with a V-6 150 Johnnie.

Squirrely at WOT.

A 150 on a 170...get some high-impact PFD's...and full-face helmets.

Pete, agreed...but tell that to Aaron!  He's got a 200 on his 200 Osprey, think he'd be happier with a 225!

I've got a 90HP 2S on mine and for me its perfect.  I run very comfortably in the 3400-3800 RPM range with plenty of throttle left over.

I run an old V-4 evinrude 90 hp on my 170.  I have seen speeds up to 40 mph.  Fuel economy is well... I don't know.  It costs me more to pull my boat a hour and a half to go boating so its a moot point.  I run a jack plate.  My boat does sit a little stern low.  It is not an issue for me.  I do enjoy having the ability to tune my engine height to match conditions.
