repower

 Hello
To anyone that can help.
Refurbishing 1980 Aquasport 222-ccp, Floors, Transom, Console, Top, the work into it about 50,000.00 w/o engine.
The boat has sentimental value my dad bought it new here in Miami when they were being made here.
Question, trying to repower with a 250 Yamaha but the rating is I believe 245.  since the boat has been completely restore
how can I get the rating up 5hp?  Dealers will not install 250 due to insurance obligations. I have a 225 Evinrude on now.
Does anyone know if it can be done?

Well, if a Dealer won't do it then you could buy it and install (rig) it yourself.

I don't believe you can change the manufacture's original HP rating no matter how you rebuild the hull.

Of course, I could be wrong.

Just guessing here...but I reckon the 225 Rude and 250 Yam are same/similar weight and the only diff in horsepower isn't associated w/the cylinders, rather the air/fuel ratio with carbs/injectors or likewise fuel related tweak.  And save yourself some $$$ by not installing with dealer....plenty of independent marine mechanic shops in Miami that would hang a 450hp on that hull if you pay them to do it.
