Prop for 22.2 w 200 etec

I have a restored 1974 22.2 with a 200 Etec on it.
I am currently running a cyclone 4 blade 14 1/2 X 15.
I love the hole shot but can't get the rpms over 4300 with the porta bracket up and the motor trimmed out.
Any recommendations on a 4 blade?

What is your etec's spec rpm range at WOT?

Prop pitch selection is not a science, more of an art form because of all the contributing factors.  However, the rule of thumb is for every 1" of pitch the result is 150-200 rpms.  Decreasing pitch increases rpms, and vice versa. 

But in this case your motor is only turning 4300 with a 15" pitch, which is on the low end of prop pitches for a 200hp.  Theoretically, you should be decreasing the pitch by at least 6" in order to get the rpms into spec range, which I assume is between 5000-6000.  4 blade props do run 1" less than a 3 blade, in terms of pitch for pitch.   But something sounds fishy here.  Are you positive a 15" is installed?  And are you positive your engine is performing to its peak?

The Etec is not like other motors. They give you a operating RPM range and an OPTIMUM WOT RPM. If your WOT RPMS are not in the optimum RPM range you run the risk of burning up your exhaust or having excessive carbon build up. In the case of the 60 Degree 200HP V6 that optimum RPM range is  5600-5850 RPM.

I agree that 4300 is WAY LOW if you actually are running a 15" pitch prop.   The 200 with a 17" pitch should make that 222 boogie.  What is the history of the motor?  I would take it to a dealer and have them run the diagnostics on it.  Most BRP dealers only charge 1 hour to do this.  If you have an injector that is dropping out you risk burning that thing up.  Also Etec are sensitive to any restriction in the fuel supply and have a spec on the maximum allowable vacuum. 

Also how low is the motor mounted?  you should see the anti cavitation plate riding on TOP of the water surface when on a plane. If you can't at least see the plate the motor is mounted way too low.

The motor is new.  It has 150 hours on it.
Never thought to check the throttle, but wait aren't these wireless?
Yes I'm sure of the pitch its engraved on the prop.

Depends on if you have digital I-command controls or standard controls. (Odds are it's standard).

Also you have to confirm your tach is correct.  What ki D of gauges do you have and where are you located?

Well then your tach is accurate.  Those RPMS still seem very low for that prop and motor combination.  Try a three blade prop just for grins.  But I just don't see you gaining 1200 rpms if your running a 15" pitch now.  Something is slowing you down.

I'd still have the motor put on diagnostics just to be safe.. Did you buy the motor new or was it already on the boat?  Also has the motor / boat been sitting for a while?  (old fuel etc) Also what kind of fuel are you running?  If you can get it locally I highly recommend you only run non-ethanol fuel in that Etec.

If you can get your hands on a test wheel you'll know if you've got an engine problem or prop problem.  But my guess is it's engine related bc of the low rpms with 15" pitch.

The gas is fresh, I only run non ethanol gas.

Jackpot!  Yeah, then I wouldn't waste any of your time troubleshooting this issue.  Just bring it in and have evinrude solve it.

X2 on taking it to your local Evinrude dealer.  Try to find a platinum certified dealer if you can.  YOu may also want to look into the E-tec Owners group forums.

×2 on PLATINUM CERTIFIED don't take your motor anywhere else even if you have to drive an hour. Pretty sure Boatwrench is a platinum dealer and they are pretty close by if you are in Orlando
