Gas tank - how many Gallons?

Looking for some input here on how big of a tank to use in a '69 222. the floor has been ripped out and we're down to stringers (see Free Hull thread for photos). Basically I can do whatever i want with the tank and put it wherever i want. thoughts or comments?
I currently have a 39 gallon tank that i am thinking will go under the console. But i'm open to advice.
Also - Joe Vinson, the gentleman that gave me this hull runs a top-notch boat dealership in St. Augustine and I urge you to stop by if you are in the area. Great inventory and great people. Thanks again, Joe!

Does Joe have a website?? Maybe we can toss some business his way.
Regarding the tank, a bunch of 222's have been rebuilt here "on the site" so maybe somebody's got an original you can lift dimensions from. Failing that, you can draw up a tank that would fit your space available. If you do, keep in mind the filler and vent location and under-deck clearences needed.

Wow. 39 gallons would not get me very far. My '78 22-2 has an 85 gallon (original??). It also has a 32 under the front deck but I have never checked it out. I'm not about to put liquid gold (gasoline) in there until I have a chance to check to make sure it's clean and replace the hoses.

My 1976 222 has a 56 gallon and I added a 12 gallon as a spare tank. I have had the tanks out several times. You may want to leave yourself the option of moving the tank forward or aft to help balance the boat. The old Aquasports are known for sitting low in the A$$. I moved my tank forward about a foot to help compensate for this. The only problem is this is trial and error. You build the boat, load it and put it in the water and check the balance. Then drain the tank and move it according to your needs. If you are using a jack plate plan on going forward a little. Also check the stringers for waterlogged foam while you have the flore out. I suspect I have wet foam in my stringers I just cant figure out how to get it out without cutting the flore out. Good luck

CCP gas tank

Hookdup - you have a CCP, which means you have a stock 85 gallon aluminum tank under the seat/console. It is normally plumbed for twin outboards, but often one hose is plugged when only one engine is installed. The tank sits in a fiberglass well - yours should look like mine - ou can check out the pictures at:
mhttp://www.classicaquasport.com/galler ... 500/page/1
There is also room to mount a 50-80 gallon tank in front of the original tank if you want. The area under the deck between the gas tank enclosure and the bow is basically open - except for a storage locker/well in the floor near the bow on some boats. So if you needed 140-170 gallons - you can do it!

Yep. My CCP has a 32 gallon in front and the 85 under the seat has two pickups. Someone teed the two pickups on the rear tank together so I left it like that. I assume the front tank was done at the factory because the floor has never been cut. There is a valve at the left rear
inside
an inspection plate for switching tanks.
