1970 22' Flatback or 1976 22' Non-Flatback ??
« on: February 18, 2016, 12:59:42 PM »
Have found and have the chance to purchase either a 1970 222 Flatback or a 1976 222 non-Flatback for restoration. Would love to hear your thoughts on the two, positive and negative. Trying to make our decision this week so we don't miss out on either one.

Also the 1970 Flatback the guy doesn't have a title. How hard would it be to get a title on it. Haven't dealt with one without title before.

I've rode in both of them and own a '73 22-2 V. The V was such a far superior boat in ride and comfort and much safer at sea than the flatback. I've never really understood the mystique of wanting the flatback other than nostalgia. If your going to do any Atlantic inlet fishing and navigation don't buy the flatback!

Thanks Fitz. What is a decent used 1976 22-2 going for, hull in good shape, no motor, transom good shape, one soft spot noticed in floor, run until about 8 months ago when guy bought another boat.

Check NADA for a starting point on price.

Who knows what a good deal is on a 40 year old boat! If you can bolt up and engine to it, throw it in the water and drive it $2000. If anything less than that; Free-$1000. Every dime you save on the purchase, goes to the rebuild.
