Fishbox drain question

This might sound dumb....but on my '90 200 Osprey I don't see the starboard side through hull drain outlet for the fiishbox that i have seen on pics here. Fishbox has a drain in it.....does it just empty into the bilge?. Can see where that might get nasty...even with good washdown   Deck is not needing rebuild....so I suppose replumbing is not even a consideration. Guess I just deal with it.

Yeah, I gotta think a few feet fwd of midships there should be a t/hull for the drain, probably starboard side...I gotta think...

Draining a fishbox into the bilge would indeed be nasty yccch!!

Stick a garden hose in the fish box and see where the water comes out.  It should come out of a thru hull.  I agree with Bob that it should be amidships on the starboard side.  I strongly doubt it drains into the bilge.  If it does drain into the bilge then you have a drain hose that has come loose.  That is very bad!

Was trying to avoid the hose approach since I am trying to get this whole boat dried out well in order to deal with those three deck screw holes/soft spot with CPES. There definitely is no through hull on either side other than the gas vent forward and the bilge pump outlets (one manual and one automatic) at the starboard rear.
So....decided to run some water into the box ......as I suspected, water in the bilge  :cry:
Looking at this predicament......seems like I am royally %$&@. Not like this seems accessible in the least!

I'm betting you don't (and never did) have one. Why?

My 91 WAC drains directly into the bilge. I keep the box plugged and when I get home I drain it through the hull drain. I take out my catch (always a large number of fish), take a deep breath and plunge my hand down into the ooze and pull the plug.  

Luck would have it, my entry drive is on a hill so I have gravity working for me. I also have a hose attached from the plug to the hull drain. Most stuff drains onto the driveway and I rinse it away. I'm fortunate also in that the fish box is removable allowing a full rinse/clean of the bilge itself as well as the box. I'm thinking that's not the way it works on yours.

If the hull has been painted, could be the thru-hull was removed, and the hole patched and painted. Now it drains into the bilge, but the hose is still there.

Several ways to go about retrieving the end of the hose, none of them much fun.

When you find the hose, several options to drain it outside of the boat, and keep the water out of the bilge.

Or you could just leave it....all you'll have under normal circumstances is a little rainwater which leaked through the hatch, no bigee as CB just said.  Just don't put fish in there, the bilge will stink like...we'll, it will stink

on my 87, the through hull is on the starboard side a few feet forward of center and just above the chine.  you can see it in this pic.  you can reach the hose for it if you reach down into the hull through the deck plate in the forward, starboard storage compartment.  if all you find is the fuel fill hose, it may have been removed at one time.  grab a flashlight and look down through the deck plate where your fuel fill cap is.  you might be able to see where the hole for the through hull was patched.  you can see the hole for the fuel vent on mine.  so if fuel fill deck plate is in the same spot as mine, directly below the fill, you will be looking into the hole and down to the left for the through hull.  a mirror on a stick may help.

it can all be reinstalled but youll be working blind and you can only feel where everything is supposed to go.  just dont drop the screw driver while tightening the hose clamps.

Tom, all is not lost.  What you are going to have to do is this.  On the vertical face of the foredeck (casting deck), cut a pie (preferably 6" pie) cheating towards the starboard hullside.  Close enough to reach the inside of the hull to install the backing nut for the t/hull, yet still be able to reach the fishbox drain fitting from the same hole.  Then it;s just a matter of installing a t/hull in the gap between the starboard storage tub and the vertical face, and then plumbing the drain to the t/hull.

Easy peasy...but I would like to see a pic so my concept matches up with reality!  Do you just have the 1 centrally located fishbox lake later year 200 Ospreys, or do you have port and starboard storage compartments as well?

Fishbox definitely not removable.....that would be nice!

Tried to see anything through the pie hole by the fuel line and vent......found a clear hose end unattached. No clue where other end is attached. Blew through it but not seemingly attached to box drain.
Was someone at Aquasport asleep at the switch????????
Maybe thought they'd play a bad joke and just leave out the through hull on a few?????

I have a central fishbox, then a forward hatch, then the anchor hatch.....not the port/starboard compartments.


Here is piehole by fuel filler/vent. Clear hose is pulled out.


Here is starboard side. Gas vent, no drain. I can not see any 'fix'. I suspect it was as Capt'n Bob's....never there.

doh.  you have the next generation (Genmar built?) osprey  i cant help you there.  seabob may have some good info for you though.

blow some compressed air in that hose and see if it comes out through the fishbox drain.  after that, put water into the hose holding it high like that to see if it enters the fishbox and to check for leaks into the bilge.  if its all good, i say put a through hull down low and attach that hose to.  get a neighborhood kid with skinny arms to reach down in the hull to put the hose onto it through that deck plate.  done and done.

Hmmmm....by the HIN, this boat is a '90.....when did 'Genmar built' come into play? Somehow thought it was slightly later.....(?)

The pie to the lower right allows you to access the t/hull AND the drain fitting on the fishbox.  THIS...is your fix...

Be careful when you cut that one in.  Looks like the fishbox come out quite a bit past the top access.
