radar installation location
« on: February 12, 2011, 11:03:51 AM »
Hi i am trying to figure out where would be the best place to mount radar dome on my hardtop. I also want to install a search light and dont want it to get into the way. Should i mount the radar on a stand higher then the light? Its for my 225 explorer with hard top.

thanks

If you put it on a tower, it should clear the light.  Plus get a tower with a few degrees lower in front to help the radar be more level when you are running.  Most towers have a provision for a light bar to get the all around white light above the dome.  Or, i had an aluminum pipe made with a platform for the light and a base that screws on a antenna mount so i can fly a flag and fold it down for trailering and so it will fit on my covered lift.

Ditto on what Doc said about the mast and the tilt.  Mast's can be pricey, but you can also get a good looking, functional install with a C-shaped mount that bolts to plates flanking the electronics box, if your top frame has these.

There are a lot of threads on THT regarding this exact install, you may want to peruse some of them...
