Does anyone have any experiences with the mid 80's merc 115 inline 6. Have a chance to pick one up for peanuts, good compression, needs a stator. Any comments good or bad greatly appreciated. Thanks

Corrosion was a big issue on old black motors.  They were also pretty noisy.  The cowling arrangement was goofy.  The inline six was bulletproof.  For nothing or, next to nothing, it'd be something to pick up.

Radioshop, thanks for the reply. It is next for nothing, with all controls and guages and prop. He just wants to get it off his boat to repower. I have made some calls and I am getting the same response. Looks like my current project will be getting a merc. Thanks

If you need parts, or just advice on re-building an old Merc, check out http://www.themarinedoctor.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl.  I believe this guy is out of Canada.

I check into his page every week or so just to read about motors people are re-building.

Jerry-rigged, great site. Sucked me in for a good hour and will probably suck me in for a few more this evening after a run to the package store. Unfortunatly this engine will not be going on my 72 17' AS. She has a 90 yam. I will be putting the merc in a 18' Romarine. Great little boat, 18' with an 8' beam. Stable as they come. Just need something to rebuild, 17 is complete. Thanks DD
