Transom material

Hello to all, my name is Mike.  I need a little information please.  I bought a 2000 Osprey AquaSport 175.  Brought home and   started work on it.  I've taken the cap off, stringers were delaminated so I completely cleaned and sanded. I am ready to apoxy, but looking at transom it looks like a synthetic core material - it has been wet.  It is black although it seems solid.  Wandering what it was made of and if anyone has info on what the material is.

In that year they were pouring the transoms with a composite material.  Should be impervious to water.

Poured ceramic composite. Usually it's white or very light gray. You can always drill a small test hole into it in a non vital spot to see what you have.

Thank you for the responses.  It doesn't appear to be poured.  It looks like 2 sheets of synthetic material.  I just didn't want to put it back together and later find out I had a problem.  It does seem to be solid.  I'll post a picture for you to look at.  Appreciate the help and have a happy, safe 4th of July.

While it isn't a "poured material" it appears to be factory. We've been told by a member that worked at the plant that in an effort to keep pace with assembly, if they ran short on composite pouring media, they would substitute coring material with what was on hand. I'd guess this is what you're looking at with your hull.

As Wing stated, you may wish to core an area to check but looking at the photo, I would think the old "bang with a mallet" test over the transom surface will tell you what you need to know.

Thank you Captain Bob for helping me with pic info and for the info I was looking for.  Transom seems to be solid and was a bit worried not knowing what it was.

I am back and have a new problem.  I found some rotten wood inside the stringers.  The wood was held by a couple of screws in side the stringer and foamed in.  Doesn't appear to have any structural value to me.  I cut it all out and don't see a need to  put it back, but I don't know. I was going to apoxy with some 1708 and foam over it.  Please advise any thoughts or what else can be done.  I have some pictures.  Thank you all.

As for the wood - you don't need any wood in the stringers.
