Modifying 22-2 ccp tank coffin

Purchased a 100 gal. Moeller tank from the marine connection Ft.Pierce to replace the 85 gal. aluminum tank to find it wouldn't fit, length x width x height of poly tank are perfect if the coffin walls where removed. Has any anyone modified a coffin to accommodate a new tank?

I have not modified a coffin (I did build one though) but make sure you leave enough room for the poly tank to grow once gas is put in it.  Grows 1+ percent in all directions.

With that being said...it wont work then. Any way to repair aluminum tank without welding? I've been reading about marine tex (grey) and cloth to make repairs....any suggestions?

What is wrong with it?  If it is leaking due to corrosion - it's time for a new tank.  Phil at Alloy Metal Works has the dimensions and can have you a new tank in a week or so...

It’s certainly possible to modify a tank coffin, but it would probably be more work than removing it and adding under deck bulkheads to create a new coffin.  Even that might not work for the Polly tank, since the stringers get wider at the bottom anyway.

As others have said, the best option is probably to get an aluminum tank welded up for you.  It’s not cheap, but in the end, it’s the simplest best rout.  I would be reluctant to patch a corroded tank.  JB weld would be at best a stopgap.  If you have some visible corrosion, then there is likely more that you can’t see.  It only takes some vapors and a spark.
