Marc don't worry about it,this is a good conversation to have,with all the passion in this thread it just shows how much we all love our country.

Buying GM Ford Dodge is still buying American,but with Toyota and the others building more cars here the line is getting blured for sure,Hell their making the Corvett in Canada now

We all feel the same. 87% of Americans believe that things aren't getting better. Not that they're getting worse...just not getting better.

Well this group must be in the 13% because anyone having any money to spend on, of all things a boat, must be doing something right.

Corporate America (read rich) created the middle class, and when it became too unruly they just dismantled it.
No government administration can change that because like a spoiled kid, the rich will take their ball and leave. Many already have. Demanding the Government make things better is irrational thinking. Doesn't work with the Corporate true mission statement and capitalism isn't built that way. Corporate now finds it can still turn a decent profit with fewer people, working harder and for less. Now that's a great business plan
Well where is the incentive to hire? Someone please explain. Is my reasoning flawed?

Take a brief moment and Google hourly rates for labor. It's incredible what some of us made for being less than a "brain surgeon". No wonder Corporate America is now headquartered in China. Or is it India? I'm easily confused.

Scott too, draws a sad picture. Maybe it's me but I feel surrounded by MTV reality show tryouts. I'm glad I can climb into my 20 year old boat and escape the insanity for a miniscule period of time.

The world is overflowing with $10 hr with no benefits labor. The problem is only the "neverhadits" will work for that and there's just so much grass that needs to be cut.

Change? Only the remnants of the lowly middle class (our kids) can effect that by working like the rest of the Global labor pool (think cheap and mobile).

Sad? Yes but facing reality often is. :cry:

I own a 1987 Nissan Maxima SE, and a 1988 VW Jetta.  Neither American cars, but built in West Germany and Japan (yes, before the Berlin wall came down), both countries great allies of ours, both countries have companies that pay their workers well...but today, even BMW and VW have plants in China, God knows where the Japanese builders have plants...we are being dragged down to the level of other "developing" countries, yet still have the costs associated with living here in the US.

Saw a program a while ago, they interviewed a Chinese construction worker.  He made the equivalent of $40/day.  Yet his apartment in the city he worked was $200/month.  One weeks wages take care of rent.  Now, let's move this to America.  In the land of $10/hr jobs, less taxes, etc., the take home per week might be $300, factoring in health care deductions, etc.  So that $400/week becomes closer to $300, yet any decent apartment in a decent part of town is around $800/month...and the take home is lucky to be $1200/month...

So the Chinese guy has 3/4 of his pay left over after rent, the American guy has 1/3 of his pay left over...something ain't right here...

I remember the big market crash before 9/11...Fed chairman Greenspan, when quizzed about the loss of US manufacturing jobs.... said not to worry America, because of our great strides in efficiency and technology, we'll become a "service" rather than a  "manufacturing" economy.

I also remember at the time that was one of the stupidest things I've ever heard a politician say. And yes, the Federal Reserve chairman will always be a politician. A glorified back-scratcher.

The stock market was up yesterday because China reported a much higher economic growth rate than anticipated. 13% this year. With our money, our consumer demand, our debt paper they earn interest on, their fixed currency, and our manufacturing jobs.

But let them hack our security, steal our defense secrets, plant worms, etc. Not so much as a wrist-slap.

Oh and lets not forget. They are ruled by a hard-line communist regime with the world's largest standing army, sworn allegiance to Hung Chow III. (not sure if spelling is correct)

Sounds about right,read somewhere china will be drilling for oil off cuba if they haven't started already,let you know if i see any oil rigs when i'm in the keys next month
