I see nothing shocking in those pics except for that trim piece,i don't like that, the rest just looks like a 17 year old bilge, that should clean up, and I've seen a lot worse skegs.
Is the motor a 93 as well,i would do what Pete said and find a third party to check the motor out so you won't have any surprises.
And i would almost bet that yellow is not factory,I'm looking to get a 17 hopefully this year and i would consider that boat myself for the price, but remember a lot of times with a used purchase things aren't what they seemed to be after you get it home.

what scared me was all this corrosion.....

and the bilge looking like this means to me that it wasn't very well cared for, sure it can be cleaned up,but why wasn't it be fore it was put on the mkt

just looking out for a new member,I've been wrong before, just ask my wife :salut:

Pete your right on that corrosion that enlarged pick made a difference for me,i wonder if all those stainless screws in that aluminum might be the cause, the two metals don't really mix.
Your also right about the bilge,i couldn't stand that on my boat but probably nothing wrong there ,just ugly, but it always amazes me what people won't do or not clean to sell something, like the mold boat you posted,at the very least pay the neighbor kid to wash it before you try to sell it,sometimes a little elbow grease go's along way.

What you are looking at is the fuel sender and the fuel pickup, with a shut-off valve coming off it...

What is this "spring" you are talking about?

Man I hate to bust your bubble,

That boat suffers from classic galvanic corrosion. That trim piece is a tell tail sign. It is in contact with the outboard which probably looks the same way on the inside water passages and exhaust baffle plate. She sat in salt water too long without without the zinc anodes being maintained and the galvanic activity has migrated through the outboard an on to the trim piece. Unless you can buy it for nothing, keep looking. At a minimum that Merc is swiss cheese on the inside. That boat has been neglected. Plan on a new engine and complete wiring job to get her back to square one. I've been around salt water my whole life and have seen this many times before. There is a ton of really nice seventeens for sale out there with your name on them.

Gotta agree...and I would just LOVE to break loose those engine bolts without several days application of PB...

my main concern would be that outboard, looks like its been left in the water on more than one occasion, i bet trying to break those bolts loose on the lower unit would be a pain in the a$$ if the boat wasnt properly maintained/ lubed. i want to say mercs use studs instead of bolts like on yamaha/omc, salt/corrosion builds up around the studs, and have to use a torch and a hammer/wedge just to break that unit loose... if paying someone to service the water pump that will run the cost of service up... oh and im willing to bet theres some water in the lower unit, if not, the dealer already drained and refilled trying to hide something...

i see this kind of stuff in the marina all the time, one thing our mechanic always says: "when re-assembling, theres no such thing as too much grease"
