1993 175 osprey questions ( paging DR Sea Bob)
« on: January 21, 2011, 08:40:46 AM »
hello i am new to this forum. my name is David, and i am in the process of buying a 1993 175 osprey with a 93 merc 100 2 stroke. from what i can tell the boat has the striper package and the package that offered the bimini top.

I love the lines of this boat and believe it will be perfect for crushing/fishing/ the Peconic bay and Shinnecock Bay . i am scheduling a sea trial as soon as the weather calms down (we are getting some snow today). i put a deposit down on the boat so it doesn't get sold, and gives me time to research.

was this boat manufactured in Hialeah fl since it is a 93?
do the 93 osprey's have a poured transom?
what problems should i be on the lookout for?
overall quality of this boat?
the bimini top is yellow, was that color an option in 93?
does anyone have a 93 brochure?
is it advisable to do water sports with this vessel? IE tubing, no skiing or wakeboarding.
from everything i can tell the boat seems to be in great conditions. pics are immaculate. so what is the fair market value for a perfect example of this boat? i am purchasing from a marina btw.

my searches have produced a lot of info on older models and newer models but i couldn't find much about a 93 175 osprey.

Thanks
David  :bounce:

ps thanks in advance for the help.

This is currently all we have on that model. :(

This boat was manufactured in Bradenton Fla. at the Welcraft plant owned by Genmar.
I believe they are wood but would love to think they are poured.
Fuel tank corrosion, soft spots in deck, transom, gel cracking. Did you tap on transom to listen for "dull" sounds as opposed to a "ring"?
No worst than any other in its class
No idea but do the cushions have yellow on them?
Unknown but what's available on this site is shown in the link above.
If the motor is up for it and you can swim (or at least tread water)
Market value will be found here.http://www.nadaguides.com/Boats/1993/AQUASPORT-INC
True Value of anything is what one is willing to pay for it.

I'm sure others will be along and add to this.

Good luck!

Not necessarily, the only way to tell is drill it. Which of course you won't be able to do until its yours! There is nothing wrong with a plywood transom. Mine is 37 years old and still solid and dry! Take a deadblow hammer with you and tap it everywhere and listen, if there are areas where it sounds like a duller sound then that area is where there could be trouble. Flex at this point is your main concern. Any problem area gives you more bargaining power but at that price I doubt there is much room.

Pardon the thread steal but it kinda matches with the member's question  :ScrChin:

Rick, help me out here (since I have a 91). In this post you state,
http://classicaquasport.com/smf/index.php?topic=4018.msg25221#msg25221

Then you state,
http://classicaquasport.com/smf/index.php?topic=5616.msg37827#msg37827

Then this,
http://classicaquasport.com/smf/index.php?topic=5489.msg36769#msg36769

Now.
(See above)

Are you fairly certain the bottom half is poured because if so, it may be that way on mine???

I'm getting ready to drill for the trim tabs install and will be a good 4" below the cutout for the motor mount.
Hopefully it will reveal "stuff" other than wood. The tabs themselves of course will be at the base and that will be another indicator of my transom's current integrity.

So to get back on topic,
David, you may just have a poured transom.

welcome aboard! nice boat,I don't think that bimini or the yellow piping is factory,by the looks of the lettering and strripes on the sideas that boat has been out in the weather since 93,I doubt the factory bimini or upolstery would have lasted that long.replacement logos are available on ebay or from any local signmaker. you might want to have the engine checked out by an independent mechanic.good luck with her :salut:

not too much worried about the water, but there appears to be alot of corrosion, that cap on tha transom should not be pitted like that and the engine mount bolts are very corroded, possibly a worn out zinc on the motor forcing the galvanic corrosion to go elsewhere/i.e. motor mounts, aluminum, basicly anything metallic that is connected to ground will corrode if the engine zinc is gone, the bilge area also seems to be neglected.I would pay a marine mechanic or surveyor to go over the boat.the corrosion problem could also affect the engine as well, all aluminum, good luck and be careful     :salut:
