« on: June 30, 2015, 07:44:51 PM »
I have a 1970 Aquasport 222 Flatback with bottom paint, no tower

Currently has 115hp Yamaha 2 stroke, thinking about the new 4cyl, 4 stroke Yamaha 150hp?

any thoughts

I don't have an opinion on brand, if that's is your question. However, weight is going to be your primary concern. And speaking of weight, make sure your transom is in good enough shape before you spend any money.

I agree with Carl, weight is definitely something to consider.  Especially if the boat is original and potentially has waterlogged foam.  As far as ideal hp, many feel that 150-175 is ideal.  If you search on the forum, you will find plenty of info.

Put 88lbs of sandbags on the engine cover while the boat is sitting in the water and see how it sits and then get a buddy and both of you walk to the aft of the boat and see what happens.

Great idea, used 2 40# bags of salt pellets, make the boat too heavy, and may not self bail

Way over propped, you should be turning 5500 at full throttle. Try a 17 or 18 pitch 3 blade. You don't need a 4 blade on that hull and engine combination. Running that prop will eventually grenade the engine from to much load.
