Looked at another 1987 200
« on: October 27, 2014, 12:34:52 PM »
This weekend.
https://tampa.craigslist.org/pnl/boa/4717609003.html

The aft inspection plate was replaced with an over sized plate to repair a soft spot.  The owner also repaired a soft spot behind the CC.  An area just forward of the inspection plate is soft as well as adjacent to the sport behind the CC.  I don't know if he is merely chasing soft spots or didn't seal his previous work properly and caused the new spots.  The rest of the deck and transom seem solid.

The manual jack plate was added since the 25" shaft was too long.  The trim tabs have been disconnected, but he said they work.  Has the windshield and railing stored (removed to clear low bridges).

He said the engine is a '94 and has been rebuilt.
Thoughts?

Not a bad price if he has receipts for the motor rebuild :salut: You can open up those larger inspection plates and get a mirror and a flashlight and check out the floor situation. Just lay on the floor and shine your light up in the hull and adjust the mirror to see the bottom of the floor. It should show the bad spots(look wet). If they have used more than 2 larger inspection plates to correct soft spots, walk the entire floor feeling for any abnormal give or bounce. If it's kind of bouncy all over but not real soft you may get a couple of years out of it before it needs replacing...Also if possible check the trough for holes. Mine had like 7 or 8 1/4 holes in it for old wiring that wasn't sealed.. Also check the tank inspection plate for the tank condition, looking for corrosion and coffin holding water.

I drove by that boat for sale on the side of Starky road last week.  I wish I had time to stop and look at it.

Most of the deck had no give at all, just the 2 areas near previous repair.

The owner said bought the engine from a guy in Georgia that had it rebuilt. I'll check if he has documentation.

He does not have the rebuild documentation, but does have service records.

That motor looks like it has the aftermarket extension on it like Grands does. If so that can be removed I would think and made into a 20" shaft and ditching the jack plate or using it to get skinny :) . Here is the link to the site http://www.baymfg.com

I believe the owner bought that way and added plate due the length; how can I tell if the extension was added.

I want a 20" shaft and a hydraulic jack plate.

Look at the section where the lower attaches. Compare it to the link I sent or google the extension and you will see. Fritz is also a specialist on those from Grands. Here is a photo with the extensions installed. Compare them to that motor on the 200.

And the photo of from the add
