The boat you link is garage kept and it shows. The ad says 5K OBO.

The engine has probably been flushed every trip if its been garaged.

Go wave 4K green at him and see where it goes. Money talks the rest walks.

Best on the quest.

Those 88 SPL motors are pretty bomb proof. Just check compression before you buy. Anything north of 95 and even, should be good.

No updates. Had a few issues arise that prevented me getting down this weekend. Things happen. :(

That said, just saw this one pop-up, and it's a little closer to me. $8,500 seems on the high side to me though, any thoughts?

Totally agree.

The garage kept boat is twice as nice at half the price. Have you talked with the owner?

Some of the members have driven 2,000 miles for the right ride...clean ones are hard to find.

I can't imagine driving 2,000 miles for anything, but I can't fault a guy who has the time and the passion to do it.

My schedule is insane, so getting out to see one that's still around might not be too easy. I work 7 days a week, and if you've noticed by the time of these posts, I tend to work overnight. Daytime hours aren't my friend.

I'll find one eventually, it's just a matter of being in the right place, at the right time.

As for the one in Tampa, someone apparently picked it up today as the ad is down, and the guy didn't even bother writing back. I guess someone thought it was worth close enough to asking price for the seller to accept it.

All that said, I'm shocked at how many people don't even bother responding to my inquiries on CL. It blows my mind.

I'm not going to call a guy at 1am, so email is typically my best bet, but getting someone to reply to an email is seeming more and more impossible with each passing week.

Hmmmm...

Need a little more info on this one. Wondering if it's a simple fix, or a disaster looking for a repower.

In either case, my question being based on a prior post is; "Do you have the time do it?"

I tend to look at these hulls being in three classes.

"Ready to go"
"Needs some work"
"Project"

At the top end, you'll find boats ranging for the buy it/go fishing to the tow it home, spend some time, money and elbow grease then go fishing. Most of these are the later models from the Genmar plant.

At the other end, the project boats are just that. The key is to get them cheap cause you will be spending time and money taking either route, DIY or professional re-builder.

Middle ground can be the sweet spot for the DIY. Hulls that need a good hard cleaning, repair/replace things like bilge pumps, nav. lights, hardware, Bimini tops, cushions along with possible fuel tank replacement and trailer work. Engine work should only include maintenance like T-stats, impeller, spark plugs, fluid change etc. so you establish a "baseline" for future maintenance.  These can be costly too but some of the costs can be reduced depending on one's time and comfort level with performing same.

The hull pictured would fit into the middle category based on the above. Without a more detailed look and based on the short description (engine doesn't run but you can have it  ) this "prize" currently sits at the lower end. You could very well get her in shape for $2K and fit your budget but..........

Do you have the time and desire to open that can of worms?

Good luck. :thumleft:

Yeah, good points for sure... doesn't matter on that one, the guy refuses to get back to me, so forget that one.

Another 2 popped up on CL today, one looks promising and I'm hoping to get out to take a look in the next 48 hours if it isn't gone by then. Not even going to post the link, crossing fingers...

But this one is a gem. You'll love the picture: (included for after it gets pulled)

The boat under canvas is an 89 170...93 Yamaha 130 re-built by a friend....unknown if its a Salt Water Series, that's the one with the SS shift rod and Steering Arm... Motor is secured to transom via an aluminum sleeve....There is a 2000 Tournment Series 175 in Homestead....This with a Johnny/Rude 115 that was actually re-built by a active, currently in business shop. @ 8500 ,Eric will give a written 6 month warranty from his shop with it. ....It attracted my attention because it's named " On a 10 " Which translates to "on A Break".
