Fuel tank. (Tampa)
« on: November 12, 2012, 08:06:49 PM »
Any one know of a good place to have a fuel tank made or any place to buy one. Looking for a 60-70 gallon, plastic or aluminum.  Want one that will fit in the original tank cavity.

What's everyone else gone with?

Thanks

Depends on your preference, aluminum or poly. Pluses and minuses for both.

For aluminum tanks, a trusted supplier has served many members for years:

A commercial manufacturer must issue a build certificate/placard conforming to testing standards. Beware the backyard builder.

Of course the question is cost. For a quality aluminum tank....figure $9 to 10 per gallon. Fifty gallons....$450 plus delivery.

Per example: my 82 gallon aluminum tank from Alloy Metal Works (link above) was $740.00.

Research, do your due diligence...and shop around.

Had a gorgeous custom replacement for my father's 1979 170 made by a welder right down the street from me.  AIM Aluminum Alloy Welding in Fort Lauderdale.  Total cost was approximately $350 with WEMA sender and they moved the locations of the fill and vent pipes so I could cut the ugly old ends off the stock hoses.   100% recommendation.  Took them just over a week.  They apparently do all the aluminum work for a boat and motor sales/parts/repair shop right across the street too, so they know marine applications.

If you don't mind a little road trip, The Marine Connection in Ft. Pierce has tons of tanks in the racks in their warehouse, you just need to know the dimensions, they have a set price "per gallon" I think it is 3.00 for water tanks, and 5 or 6 for fuel, but you could call them ask.. great place to visit also, like Disney World for boaters
