Seadek?
« on: November 07, 2012, 08:52:09 PM »
Anyone use it?  Pictures?  Pro's and cons if you have?  I have samples here and it looks and feels very durable. I am just wondering how it wears and if it stays down where applied.  I am thinking of using it on all nonskid surfaces.
Thanks in advance,
Jay

Just a quick search using +seadek and voila

Rick, thanks for the tip.  I did search and did find that particular thread (its what actually got me to research Seadek), however I didnt find it all that informative.  It was originally about Dry Dek tiles and then a post or two about using Seadek in high traffic areas or where one would stand.  I am looking for opinions and experience with Seadek on the entire deck and how it may age.

I have been on a few boats that have it - one of them being a charter captain.  It is very comfortable and really saves the feet and back when standing all day.

The charter captain swears by it.  Over the course of three years, the SeaDek never peeled back or anything - although he did have it professionally installed and may have used a strong adhesive considering the amount of use it was going to get.  It also never showed any wear or tear.  Just think about the abuse a charter boat gets.

From what I understand, the entire process is very easy for anyone to do.  If they do not have a CAD in their database of your boat, they have two methods of creating the size and design you need.

1) Bring your boat to their shop and they can use a special tool which create a CAD for your boat.
2) Purchase a template kit, mark out what you need, send it back and they custom make it for you.

Thanks for the replies guys.  Wessnapp and Pete, thats the type of info I was looking for.  It sounds great, and while I know its not cheap, I think (hope) it will be worth it.  I spent all the money on rewiring and repowering, its only right to make it look and feel the way I want it to now! Gonna do a bit more research, and maybe a couple others will chime in here before I make my final decision.  There is almost a foot of snow on the ground right now so I am in no rush!  Although I would love a Fast Forward/Rewind button!

I may be the contrarian here, but I would only use Seadeck on the hullsides behind rod holders to mitigate rattling. After a few years, Seadeck looks absolutely horrid, with little chunks missing and stains. It was all the rage for a few years with some of my fly fishing buddies on their flats skiffs, but they have since recanted their everlasting allegiance to the wonder shite after having to replace w/in 5 years. For the cost, it needs to last much longer than 4-5 years (that it tops). Most have stripped the stuff and replaced with Griptex that will last infinitely longer than Seadeck.

I have not used Sea Deck but from what I was told by people who had, was the same as what Eugene said.

I really wanted to put it in my boat for the comfort on my feet but could not see shelling out that kind of coin for something that was going to not hold up.

I may still purchase a helm pad from them and install that.

A bit OT, but in the past I've used commercial/industrial grade floor cushioning as a mat between the console and the leaning post. They have it on rolls at restaurant supply houses. They'll cut what you need, pay by the foot.

Never deteriorated, really cushy. Not expensive. Lift is up, hose it off, put it back down.

I have the helm pad and find it very comfortable, I will probably get one cut the right size for the upper station too.
My helm pad is only a year old and is already showing signs of wear but for roughly $100 if I have to switch it out its cheap enough, as it sure saves your back

Agreed!Makes the ride more comfortable, and I have tried the cushioned mats and I'm always afraid they will blow out of the boat.
