Question about forward hatches on 170's
« on: October 31, 2012, 08:50:53 PM »
This may really be a dumb question, but as I look at the 170 I notice that the 3 forward hatches; one big center fish hold and the two matching side units do NOT have latches to hold them down. Do you folks who run one see the need? My last center con really needed to have the twist lock latches engaged or I would get noticable slamming noises on my holds lids. Just think its odd, so I figured I would ask...........more trivia questions to come.

On my 2000 175, I only have the large fishbox with out a latch and yes, it does slam on the bigger hits. Not enough to make me worry yet....

I have a 175 2000 and the hatch bounces.   I put two latches from the hardware store.  brass.  and snap it shut.   I also helps to put a piece of rubber between the hatch cover and the deck to help with the banging.
If I had to do it over, I may have used stainless.  May redo it anyway...
but it does work..good March project in New England.  (between snowstorms)  Ken
