Yes, I like the toe kicks, something that easy makes it easier get around in the back and really only takes away a bit of storage. I think I will run them out the transom and bevel the toe kick a bit to push water to the corners, ill have to see how easy access to them will be. I need to do more detailed mockups.

Nice job on the mock up. You may want to reconsider the toe kick. It'll be a real B!tch to clean under there and might be conducive to mildew, not to mention baits finding there way under there - out of sight out of mind. Nothing like week old baits stinking up the place.

Agreed. Id probably make it squished-down deck brush height. Which is pretty close to rubber boot height as well.
Looking good!

Got a ? for you..maybe my eyes aren't as good as I thought they were, but it looks like a cutout at the transom bottom where your new transom is joined to the outer skin where the drain plug would be...You doing something special there or will it be filled later?

That's an old trick used by many, especially with transoms cored with wood. When the hole is drilled for the drain plug it is thru solid fiberglass and protects the transom core from water intrusion.

That makes sense, but with coosa I didn't think rot was a problem. Then again, solid glass would be tuff around the drain..so it does make sense :thumright: Thanks for the info Blue Agave

I think I'll have to play with the toe kick idea a bit, the mention of baits under there is a good point as now in my 17 the net commonly gets emptied on the deck and back they go. The reason I want it is for access to the back and it seems to feel more open when leaning over the transom.

I do not plan to fill the drain area but it is all glassed in, so the coosa is bound well to the transom right there. Just made sense to have a 1/4" plug over a 3" drain, didn't think it would impact strength at all.

Thanks!

Here is a pic of my transom and deck cap. As you can see, outside of the transom knees it is open and will give you the same advantage of the toe kick you are thinking about. All the rigging runs between the transom knees and is easily accessible by removing the sunbrella. Hope this helps your brain storming.

Yet another option to keep your toes safe is to angle the bottom edge of the mock up aft 3-6 inches depending on how big your feet are.  This would allow you to easily see any stray baits flopping around and drains could be put in with the tubes cut on a bias..

Pulled the cap...  Anyone ever buy old caps?

Used the router to run the lip and even out the hull and liner, will be easier to build the cap with everything even.

Also cut the front for a new castnet hatch, so much extra room, plan on opening up the deck to make use of all the extra space. May even drop batteries below deck up front to help weight dispersion.

Knees are going in this week so the transom should be complete soon.

Plan to build it in 4 prices.....Front, back, sides, then mold them together. Want to do minimal lip and make it a nice flat walking surface and lower profile. Will likely build and pull molds for them

Did a test and also plan to integrate rod holders to minimize the need to purchase so many stainless ones.

With the new cast net hatch, what's your plan on moving the gas tank forward?

The console and tank already sit more forward than the flat backs. The tank has a coffin built into the floor, I will likely use a smaller tank than stock and push it all the way forward. If need be I can cut out the coffin and move further forward and just use the extra space in the rear for a storage hatch on top of the planned bilge hatch.  Batteries and tm batteries may also go in forward below deck for added forward weight.

You certainly have good ideas and know what you want, and that is a good thing. I look forward to progress on your build. Keep in mind that the flatback is a completely different boat. Also, gas tank and battery together go BOOM!  Are you going with the stock console?  Plenty of room under the console for batteries.  :thumright:
