Where oh where are our molds...
« on: October 26, 2012, 06:10:04 PM »
So following my little visit to the plant, the question arose, as it did before...where are the molds for the hulls and decks?  So I called 4 Winns CS this aft, spoke to Bill.  He had no clue.  4 Winns is where all the Wellcraft stuff went.  He said they may even have gone with the Hydra-Sports molds up to the Mastercraft plant in Vonore.  Hmm, Ron Adair in H-S cust serv is a good friend of mine, let me give him a call.

So Ron and I talk for quite some time, he has no clue either.  But, he said something disturbing to me...they may have been destroyed.  He hired on with BPS when they bought Mako and moved them to NC from Miami.  As BPS introduced new models, the old, CLASSIC MAKO molds were destroyed!!  Cut up and hauled away to scrap dealers on flatbeds.  The 171, 204, 224, 228, 232, 251, 257...all of them gone, forever.  God I hope that was not the fate bestowed upon the Aquasport molds!

I know they are not in Sarasota, as my friend Rob Wilhoit (if some of you have been following the thread on THT, you know) has been through the entire plant, no molds...

So Monday I am going to do my darndest to contact Genmar and see if I can't find out either the location of the molds, or learn of their demise.  We'll see.  But a piece of good news.  Ron has a "file" of all sorts of Aquasport stuff that someone in Wellcraft CS gave to him off their server several years ago.  He's going to email me that file on Monday, we'll see what's in it.  Could be some really neat stuff...

Wasn't feeling that well today, kinda took it easy.  Be back up to snuff tomorrow.  Whatever is in that file, I'll forward it to CB, keeper of the records...

Me too, Jon.  Ron mentioned prop charts, spec sheets, all kinds of different stuff.  You guys will find out when I do...

Ron's a great guy, known him for years.  A little phone call, and we ended up talking for almost a couple hours.  H-S is doing well, even in their new ownership scenario, so that is a GOOD thing!

Bryan,
I tried calling Genmar last year to no avail.  But through one of their avenues of contact, I'll get to speak to a human that might actually know something...even if it's the old man Irwin Jacobs himself!

JimCT sent them a ton of stuff back in 2005/6 because they had nothing - may get the same stuff back plus more.

You know Rick, that's petty pathetic on Genmar's part.  Everything ever about Aquasport was right there i the offices.  I mean, to have to go to an outside source to get info...about your own product?  Jeez...

I remember.
Maybe we should go pay the old guy a visit.
You never know?

Most of the specs you see here were purchased and donated to this site by JimCT and it wasn't cheap buying it page by page. He scanned it all, put it on a CD and sent it to the CS dept after talking to them and finding out that they had little to nothing.  On the flip side they referred all people that had a quastion on their boats here.

Well, I got all the stuff Ron had today, already put up an old 19-6 ad in this thread...viewtopic.php?f=1&t=9907

Let's see if I can find something newer...here you go Scott, probably apply to your 230 as well, Rick.  225 Explorer/Osprey trailer dimensions if you ever want to get a new trailer made...

I'll find more stuff...
