Bob,  It sounds like you enjoyed your trip down memory lane.  It's good to do that once in a while. I know I enjoy doing that.

No one will care about the stuff there until it's gone. Then they will be very concerned, even if it just a bunch of junk they don't need or want.

Roy,
It really sucks.  I bet what's inside the buildings...well, I'd just like to get inside and see.  I know what all that stuff would be, and it's usefulness....

Sometimes, to be honest with you?  Rich people suck...

In all seriousness Bruce, like I said to Aaron, I really don't think anyone would give a chit if it was gone!  I know the cop saw me turn in and park, I didn't try to hide...and he just kept on cruisin'...

But I really enjoyed it.  I had so much anticipation when I was was driving towards the plant.  And when I got there, and to just be able to walk around...and look...and think about the people, old friends who I haven't seen in years, the boats we put out, the goofy chit, the day I left...

Just glad I was alone...on a beautiful day...

I thought about my good friend, Antonio Fernandez...Tony.  Came over from Cuba just before Castro.  Taught me everything I know about rigging motors.  Made the best homemade Chorizo in the world (used Boston butt)...one of those people that will forget more than you'll ever know...

He's probably passed on now, but what a tremendous man...and a great friend.  Thought a lot about him yesterday...

Bob that was really cool to see and read.  I want to thank you for sharing all of your knowledge and history with the place and the people that made it a home for you all those years.

That was a really cool way to learn a bit of production history behind the boats.

Also very good work in your restraint......I would have been the guy jumping the fence.... and looking for open doors to explore :rambo:

Chris,
To be honest with you?  I could've been in there in a heartbeat...and in the buildings.  The door to plant 6, I can open with my Leatherman.  The door upstairs on the outside of plant 3 that you can see in the pic?  Kick it and it pops open.  I guaranty those doors and locks haven't been replaced...

Maybe sooner than one might think.  But just a great weekend overall, want to thank my great friend Scott Dickson for putting up with me, and for giving me the opportunity to enjoy some of the things that were only memories until now... :thumright:  :thumright:

Bob, this is awesome.
I think it is so cool to see the places my boat was made, really awesome.
Thank you so much for taking the time and showing us your old stomping grounds.
My business side takes over and thinks what can we do with the left over stuff.
Sometimes this can be purchased for pennies on the dollar.
I think it is really sad to see a great company just sitting crumbling and we just watch it happen.

Yes, it is really a long shot, however anything we can do as a group?
Never hurts to ask, right?

I am even up for raiding the place stealth mode.
We aint stealing, just taking back.

All kidding aside, how much longer before the trash trucks come and start hauling to the dump?

Very cool to see the plant. Thanks Bob! I'm sure it was emotional for you.

I'd hate to see that mold go away for good. That would be a shame. If it weren't so far away I'd be glad to help participate in it's rescue. Let me know if there is anything I can do.    I'd certainly be glad to make a phone call to the owner or sign a petition or anything that would help save the last of the line.  :salut:  :thumright:

Thanks again Bob!

Bob maybe the powers to be would let you take whatever is left in there, if you asked. At least maybe the accessories if there are any left behind.

Might not hurt to ask if you know who to contact.

Roy,
I posted this on THT, there has been a very lively discussion on it (actually a GOOD discussion, go figure!).  There is a good possibility that at least part of the plant may be used by Marine Concepts, the firm owned by the former president of WC/AS, Bob Long.  If that happens, then I will DEFINITELY drop in as I know a few of his staff members very well.  Personally I would love to see the old place put to use again, and Marine Concepts would be the perfect tenant...

And then I could get pics of the inside!  You guys (and myself) would love that! :thumleft:  :thumleft:

Bob,
I think that if you ever make the trip to Marine Connection Lquidators you'll know where all the leftover surplus parts are.

I say we pillage the place.
With the way crimes go these days we may do a day or two?
