Unless they made the Taurus much bigger it is worthless as a police car. No room in the back and even less after a cage is installed. A grown man can't hardly get in the back, even if he wants to. Try getting a 250lb man in there who doesn't want to go.

The other problem is the front wheel drive. Poor handling, no traction, and too many things up front to break. Very poor as a chase vehicle. They have tried Taurus police cars before and they didn't work out.

The Ford Crown Vic was the best police car in recent years. The Dodge Charger is suppose to be ok from what I was told, but lacks in the rear view department. I never drove a Charger so I really can't comment on them to much.

Good deal. Never been in a Po-Po car, but have seen many we've hired for security.

The Crown Victoria...nice ride. At least you're going to county jail in style. Plenty of room in the back to hide the chit they missed on the pat down

The best car I can remember to hide chit in was a Corvair 4 door a buddy had back in the day.
Floor boards where rusted out.
We would cruise around drinking Lucky.....most of you probably don't know what Lucky was....if we got pulled over by the cops  we would pull up the  floor mats, set the beer on the pavement under the car through the rotted out floor boards. Worked every time.

Life was a lot simpler 40 years ago

Would this be what you would call a thread derail  :)

Absolutely!  And $40K for an SHO?  Yeah, right...

The Max and the Jetta look better and better everyday!  And I had a GREAT time running up N Florida Ave in the Max the other day...rowing through the gears, in and out, scaring the crap out of the old farts...

I just thought the video of Carl Stewart scaring the office boys was cool! "90, 100 miles an hour..  Do you see there is a turn coming? I'm sorry I was looking at the speedometer.."

I was sacred for life by the grandma qualitys of the Taurus line back in the 80s..  I just can't see it as the next Blues Mobile in 10 years...

I had a Crown Vic Police Interceptor when I was with OSHA - big white car (Moby!), nice traction control system, good brakes, pretty good handling for its size, amazing overhead dome light  :sunny: , but not nearly fast - even with the "cop motor" - just too much weight for that 4.6 or 5.0 liter engine.  :x  The optional gun/weapon racks in the trunk are kinda cool, but we didn't get to use them in OSHA.

They weren't too slow with the 5.0 engine. I chased down a 1985 Corvette with two armed burglars in it with one. The vette was also stolen. They would pull away in the straights and I would catch up in the turns. The driver was terrible and slid out on the turns. Think I had a 87 Crown Vic at the time.

I hate to say it PB, but the L98 engine in the '85 Vette only put out 230HP.    :x   The 1980s were the "dog days" for Corvettes.  So running one of those down with a CVPI (Ford calls it a P71 with the 251HP cop motor) wouldn't be that hard, especially with a POS driver at the wheel.     Now I would consider major bragging rights if you could chase down a new ZR-1 Vette with over 600HP!   :salut:  Of course, many PDs won't let officers do high speed chases anymore.    Just taking all the fun out of law enforcement - like using non-lethal weapons...    Did someone say derail?

The Vette did seem a little slow, but all the stolen stuff packed in it might of slowed it down some.  It was still fun. Yeah they frown on chases now. Some of the non lethal weapons like Tazers are fun. Kind of like a fish flopping around on the deck.

A friend of mine ordered  a ZO6 limited edition Vette in 08 I believe
427 c.i. 505 hp, with a 6 speed manual tranny.
I drove it once....
Car was absolutely awesome...puts my old 69 Vette to shame.

The Z06 is a rocket from what I hear.  Over the course of 35 years I had a 69, 75, and a 94. I don't want another one however. I had my share.
