Standup jetski's...any experts?
« on: September 21, 2012, 07:36:00 AM »
My buddy just deposited two older kawasaki standups at my house. I'll probably be the labor, he'll be the wallet and we'll try to get them right...i just don't know where to start.

Any experts? Appears to be a 93 650sx and a 92-93 750sx (hin is damaged on that one).

I'd like to rebuild both engines and carbs, but beyond that I'm not sure what needs attention on these things.

Currently on nothing but cell phone/air card.  Which severely limits internet time.

My Daughters give me 5 points for each one I hit,
10 points if there are two people on them
and, 15 points if they are sunk after we run them over.  :D
Thats all I know about them.

Tough crowd...what if I proved that Fred Coburn had a hand in their design? Would you help me then?

Edit to add: where I live they're not a menace to boaters, which I'm gathering they are in y'all's respective areas.

Stand ups are not usually the problem on the water.  There is a company here in Clearwater that has all kinds of parts for those things that you can get online.  Here is the web site:  http://www.shopsbt.com/   The 650 and 750 Kawi are great motors.  Simple ans easy to work on.  You need to have pretty good balance to ride the standups.

Nothing more then a Kaw/Rotax two stroke water cooled snow machine engine (depending on the vintage).  Fun while you are on them if you have throttle left in the turns, nothing much more annoyning when your not on them and have to listen to them..

Carbs, Water pump, zincs in the cooling system, the salt cleaning treatment, a good look at the impellers and you should be ok. I don't remember if those had a heat exchanger or were raw water to the jacket, if you have the heat exchanger, a bubble check type pressure test will let you know if that is leaking...

There was a guy up here that took apare a big one of those things and put the engine and jet in a 22 foot strip cedar built round chine hull in the style of Will Frost Jonesport lobster boat.  Thing was beautiful, quiet, fast and could run in really skinny water.  Great use for one of those water bugs.
