Upgrade?
« on: September 17, 2012, 09:08:21 AM »
I'm thinking of upgrading my Black Max from 200HP to 300HP.     What do you guys think - will my CCP handle the extra?

We can always make the engine match the decals! It's only $5K and 6800 rpms away.... She'd look smokin hot with a torque master gearcase on her for another $3.5K! 32-1 premix, 93 premium fuel ,mosquito killin bad ass 2.4 Lake Norman 222. We may sacrifice a little idle quality however.

Even though it's not rated for 300HP, I believe that what you intend will work without any problem.

Oh my Mr. Bob you know your Merc history! That little fingerport, the size of your pinky made this bad boy sing at 6800 @280 hp. Not bad for 142 cu in. These were the bad of the bad and really nothing ran with it in 1/8 mile or circle track.

And Lord they sounded beautiful!!!  Used to be a guy in Sarasota that ran a 24 Talon with twin Bridgeports...could hear him coming a mile, maybe 2 (   ) away.  Would run just offshore along Longboat and Anna Maria.  Back in the 90s.  Some locals may remember him...

CJ,
Here's the sound we all know and love...unmistakable!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=en ... UW7HdISzuw

Look familiar?  The 225 Promax on Dr. Mike's Talon, Crescent nose cone...

At idle, on the muffs, she sounded bad-a$$!

And yes, I had just drilled out the rivets and removed the old rusted cowling hold-downs, she got new ones...
