215 DC cleanup

I just bought a 1999 215DC and would like some cleaning info. The outside hull has been waxed by prior owner, but not anything above the rub rail.

We washed the boat with Dawn soap and only a little chalking was noticed on the upper gelcoat. It cleaned up nicely, but needs to be waxed or polished.

We talked about rubbing compound but we are not sure that it is bad enough for that as it is still smooth to the touch. I would like to know if "cleaner wax", "polish" or just a regular wax would be best.

Any suggested brands would also be helpful.

This is what you may want to try. It works very well with a polisher.

There are a lot of ways to restore the shine before your final wax. I've used both the gel compound followed by the ultra cutting creame. If it isn't real bad, the Ultra Cutting Creame works very well by itself, in my personal experience. Easy to use and clean up simple.

I don't do it for a living and I don't plan to continually polish my boat (old, fat and lazy) but here's the best $50 bucks you'll spend on a disposable polisher. Mine's been working for quite a while I might add.

Roy if it's in pretty good shape Meguires cleaner wax works real well and it's about 6 bucks a bottle at wally world, I keep up with my boat but that's about all I've ever needed to use since day one.
