Need some opinions on supporting the hull while on the trailer with the floor, cap and transom out.

I have to keep the boat at my house or no work will ever get done on it. I also have to keep it mobile due to our city ordinances, no blocking it up.

Here is how she currently sits.

I backed it off the front roller by the winch to reduce any flex on the nose and to get as much of the hull on the bunks. There is only one roller towards the front of the boat.

i will be removing my boat from the trailer and blocking it at several points along the chine and keel when i glass everything back together...

i have the same issues with the ordinances but i will be taking a section of fence down and stuffing her in the back yard out of sight to  do the remainder of the work... talk to your local codes guy, if you call the guy in charge of your neighborhood, he may let you keep it there for upto 30 days to get the work done. weve done it too often...

I would run two more "bunks", for keel support, from that front cross member on the trailer to the back one, shim and tie them together (center and outer bunks) as necessary. I would also suggest you run them past the transom so it has proper support.

Use as many styro blocks and shims as you can between trailer and bottom of the hull.
Did not think you could even keep a boat in your driveway in the Cape, a community built on hundreds of miles of canals it just does not make sense.

you could definitely tell my windows were in a livewell too. maybe they were trying to make the bait feel at home who knowser?

I'm learning alot about these old 22-2s from reading these rebuild threads.  You guys have provided so much information and have such incredible final products that I am keeping a lookout for one of these for my own rebuild project.  The wife isn't going to be happy about that.

Anyway, I would think that those windows were located in the livewells for safety reasons.  If a window should fail, the worst thing that will happen is put water in the livewell.

Well the demo has started. I had some spare time which is hard to come by and I couldnt resist starting to tear the floor out. What a pain in the rump, someone has previously put in about 500 screws holding the floor to the stringers, not to mention multiple layers of soaking wet marine ply in some places.

Im going to finish cleaning out the floor and fuel tank then put the engine on the stand



Can you tell I forgot to clean out the hold after our last outing?

Sweet man! I didn't take pics of all the empties I had to clean out of mine...

I didn't find any bit of foam that didn't have water in it...

I think the foam has been replaced in mine. It apears to be a closed cell foam, I had some in standing water that was pretty much dry. I have found several spots where the stringers have been patched.... I will cut some more out and inspect further.

so after 2 plus hours on just getting the tank out, it was glassed in and had some liquid nails on the under side. What a mofo that was.
 I took some measurements and its an 80 gallon tank. Seems thats a bit much for that boat even with 2thirsty5 on the back. I was thinking something around 50 to 60 gallons.

Any thoughts?

I notice that you have a pipe exiting the starboard aft at the transom.  Did it have any cover or anyway to keep water from getting in?

Personally I was think thinking the 50-60 gallon range too, but if the tank is good it's not like you have to fill it all the way... I guess it depends on budget and weight distribution, since you have run run the boat I guess that would be your call. I got a new tank for pretty much free, but from what I saw when I was looking around online a 50-60 gallon tank they run around $350.

I have two 22 gallon steel tanks from 1981 I'll give you, just pay the shipping!  The seams are only slightly rusty...
