Not sure if the foam will allow for the 2% expansion and if it does, there will then be room for the tank to be sliding and bouncing around when its empty.

I could be wrong, but I believe the 2% expansion is a one-time, permanent change.  Once the tank is exposed to gasoline, the reaction occurs.  In other words, it will not get smaller as the tank empties (unless perhaps it sits empty for a very long time).

Thats what I read too.  Takes 45 days exposed to gas to chemically change and expand.  It stays that size.

I have no idea how I am going to mount the tank as of yet. My original plan was to foam it in and a couple straps across the top. Not sure if the foam will allow for the 2% expansion and if it does, there will then be room for the tank to be sliding and bouncing around when its empty.

Regardless if you go with a poly tank or an aluminum tank I would not foam the tank in.

ahhh I see so the tank expands and then stays that size.

Craig I plan on putting the tank 68" from the transom and that's measured flat on the floor from the transom

My biggest problem with the glass was wrapping the top of the stringers and getting all the bubbles out... what a pain and the glass work is ugly looking. Its good and solid but man its ugly in places.

Thanks Ryan - I think my tank will be about a foot further forward than yours.  That's about the only way I can fit the rigging tubes so they come up under the console.

I thought your problem might be the tops of your stringers.  I'm having the same issue with the knees I just installed.  I'll be posting some pics on my thread in just a few minutes....

little more progress.

built two bulk heads, the knee's for the transom and the fuel tank mounts.

man its no joke when you hear people say you can work for weeks and not see any progress. Its all the little b.s. that seems to take up all the time. All the things I worry about never seem to be a problem and all the things I don't think will be an issue take up a week of my evenings messing with them.

the tank will rest on the center pipe, and 4 mounting blocks you can not see in the picture. All with 1/2 inch neoprene on them. It will also have 4 aluminum brackets on the top fastened to the stringers.

Decent progress  :thumright:
I know you've been reading our posts about expansion of the poly tanks and I see you have plenty room side to side. Calculate 2% of your tank length and add a little for growth that way, which is the way I'd think your would have the most expansion.
Before you get too far buy your fuel hose and vent line (figure about $10/ft for both) and figure out how you're going to route it, the fuel hose is very stiff and not easy to make even subtle bends. I'm still trying to figure out where I'm going to attach mine to the gunnel.

Lookin' good OS. :thumright:

Just speaking for myself, the best thing about the Rebuilds forum is seeing all the different dynamics that the members use in 'skinin' the cat". Very interesting indeed and a huge wealth of knowledge for anyone contemplating a rebuild of their own. Truth is, the only  poor rebuild I've seen on the forum is one some fly by night guys with a pickup truck for an office, did for a member several years ago.

Your right, big things seem to go fast its all the little things you did not even expect that slow these builds down
Plan on taking off the cap and re glassing it underneath?
Rigging tube/tubes inside or outside of stringers?
Looking good

rigging tubes on the inside on both sides.

I pulled the cap already and did some work underneath, I just set it back on the boat to keep it from killing my grass.

You guys are right concerning the little stuff turning to big stuff.

Regarding the rigging, tubes, etc. Don't forget to drill drain holes in you rigging tubes.....and make the tubes max size per the app.

And...30 degrees is a much easier turn than 45 degrees.

Scott where did you find a 3" 30 degree elbow... Heck Im a pool guy and I don't have those? Is it a boat rigging thing?

Thanks for the tip on the drains, I never even thought of it.

 :thumright:

The 3 inch portion was fabbed glass (outside the stringer on the right), so I mislead you a bit on the 30 degree turn...it was in the fab., my bad.

The smaller PVC tube for the gas lines....checking back through the pics, looks like he may have heated it up and bent it. There is not a coupling
