You can dremel a small amount of clearance in the lip for the nuts...

Bingo.  And like Scott says, top-hat nuts are what we used.  They look like a top hat from the side view, c'sink the hole and the "tall" part firs nicely in the c'sink.  Take a pair of vise grips to break off the shank of the bolt, kiss the end with a grinder...slick install...

Thanks for the info and suggestions.

I actually got something similar today to those top hats.  They were stainless t nuts with no points from Ace.

I threaded one and tightened and then broke off as you suggested.  Then the bolt was loose again.  I will give the top hat style you suggested to see if there is a slight difference, maybe in quality and fit.

Capt E, we installed THOUSANDS of hinges at Wellcraft/Aquasport with top hats, no probs whatsoever.  Didn't even need to use any type of tool, just hold your finger on the nut to keep it from spinning as you tightened it, the top hats really snug their way into the c'sink.  8-32 machine screws, an easy way of breaking off the bolts is to use a 5/16" (yellow handle) nut driver...

Ordered the top hat nuts and installed them today.  They worked great, thanks for the link.  Only thing that sucks on that website is $25 minimum order and the shipping.  I only needed a handful of these and had to order 25 at a buck a piece plus $10 shipping because the site had nothing else I could use.  Oh well, I got the job done.

Gives a nice clean look on the underside of the hatch, doesn't it? :thumleft:

Getting closer to the end.  I'm hoping to be done with everything by the end of January.  It's actually starting to look like a boat!

That boat is stunning.  You should send a picture of it to the new Aquasport company in Tenn.  That is exactly what they should be building for new boats if you ask me!

That might be the best colors I've seen on an AS. My favorite so far, at least.
