New Cover almost done
« on: July 22, 2012, 09:43:44 PM »
Well, since I have been BBQ catering all weekend, and couldn't take her out, my friend told me he could probably complete the cover in a weekend.  It's almost done, he has to figure the transom out, but it came out sweet... going to be so nice, not to have to clean the boat before heading out.  60 yards of material (60 inch wide roll).boat cover.JPG[/attachment:3w59tsqj]

Nice, Marc!  How does it close around the T-Top?  Zippers?  Velcro?

yeah, we have tons of white oaks up here near the water, and they have these nasty little furry things that look like catapillars, they make a huge mess, and stain brown all over the gelcoat

Looks good Marc.
Is he planning on putting a tent pole in the front where your coffin is/should be?  If not, ask him if he can.  If you get a deluge of water in a short period of time it'll pond up and overwhelm that area and then it'll fail. A through-cover tent pole with a bunch of re-inforcement at the ring will take care of that problem.
I have 4 poles in the 230 and it sheds water well, no ponding at all.  I need to waterproof my cover but even without that, it sheds fine.

Rick beat me to the question on the tent pole, or poles.   You will need some sort of a support for that thing to shed water in a hard rain.  I can get you some nice telescoping aluminum ones if you like.  I can also get them with a small solar powered fan on top.  Looks like he is doing a great job on it!

So for some answers on the top, I'll post some more detailed pics when I get it home, he did some pretty cool stuff.  The material (Pete) is sunbrella firesist http://www.outdoorfabriccentral.com/firesist_page.html
I got it from this place in Jax for around $6 per yard, he stitched it with a Kevlar thread that is UV protected, he is a retired Marine parachute rigger who now works at the base with me, and has a full shop out at his house.  He normally doesn't do projects  this big, but since we work together...  (Bob) the cover is fastened to the t top in 4 places with plastic clips like are on  life jackets real quick and easy, also theybwill be used along the sides to connect to the trailer frame instead of bungie cords.  There is a large zipper down the starboard side  amidship even with the console, that is the entry and exit point.  For the FWD section instead of a pole for the  rain issue he is putting in a square mesh panel that will have a piece of material over it with Velcro holding it down, rainnwater will go through but leaves and trash will not, it sounds good so we'll see.  He also made the front section going around  the pulpit with an openingnin front so my anchor can stay intact without interfering with the cover.

This ain't this gentleman's first rodeo

Good thinking.... like the entry(who thinks of that?), the mesh drain, and the pulpit access. Good deal bro :thumright:

UPdated detail PICS New Cover
« Reply #13 on: July 28, 2012, 10:07:32 AM »
Got her home last night, thought I'd throw a few detailed PICS out some cool things he did with it, to make it user friendly and drain water off the FWD section.  Very easy to install, I can have the cover on in less than 3 min.  I have to figure a better way on the buckles though around the frame, that takes more time than anything threading the nylon straps through the buckle slots.engine cover.JPG[/attachment:1b98w3s5]mesh drain.JPG[/attachment:1b98w3s5]pulpit opening.JPG[/attachment:1b98w3s5]
