Which is the wiring under console that leads to my stereo
« on: July 07, 2012, 06:20:26 PM »
Hi.  The stereo, mounted in the wall on the port side, next to the dual console in my 215 Osprey hasn't worked all season.  Was fine last year.  I can't figure out the wiring to save my life.  How can I determine the wiring under the starboard console that leads to the stereo?
Thanks, Dave

Dave,
Well, obviously the speaker output wires run to the speakers, so we'll leave that alone.  You have a red (switched hot), yellow (constant hot), and black coming out of the back of the stereo.  But god knows what color they could be (save the ground, black) once they enter into the helm console.  Soooo, since you have 3 ACC switches controlled by breakers, chances are one of those breakers also feeds the stereo.  If the stereo is wired properly, the yellow wire should either go straight to the battery or to the battery switch (post 1 or 2) if you have one.  Of course, ground will terminate to the ground bus.

I used to wire 215s, '98 to '00, but really can't remember any factory stereo installs.  There may be a stereo provision in the main accessory harness, there may not.  If you post a GOOD pic of the backside of the helm panel (especially those ACC switch breakers), I may be able to find it for you...
