Etec 150, Zuki 140, Optimax 150 - all nice motors.  Any would be nice on that boat.  Jesse has a Zuki 140 on his 19-6 and seems pretty happy.

Seems that the 140-150 is the perfect size engine on a 196.

Flatsfisher,

We have a demo 150 HO Etec off our 18' Shipoke that we will be selling this month. It has 47 hours and 5 years of BEST warranty through BRP. It is pristine and was used a handful of times for demos or when we loaned the boat to magazines for articles on the boat. It was also used once for one of the tournaments in the Flatsmasters Redfish series in Tampa.

We sell demo engines when they have 50-100 hours so I will also have a 90 Etec coming for sale soon. Please contact me should you have an interest in this engine. It will save you some money. 727.452.0031

Have you looked at the eTec 130?  It's a V-4 that is famous for low end torque and good fuel economy.  Weight is good too.

Fine offer to a brother Eugene :salut:

Based on Jesse's ride with the Suzi 140, the V-4 130 should do an excellent job, with fuel savings.

The 150 will be a ball o' fire...hang on!

The 150 HO is supposed to be the cat's arse....know they won't say, but wonder the propshaft HP it delivers?

Yep, I'm real happy with my Suzuki.  I get about 40mph WOT.  With a 150, you'd be somewhere around 45mph give or take.  These 19-6's were never go fast hulls.. Aaron's 200CC rigged with a 200HP tops out around 50mph.

For conversation's sake, I believe the BIA and EPA laws give a tolerance of ±10% of badged horsepower.  If its over or under this 10% tolerance, it has to be rebadged.  I've read that the ETEC 150HO is on the high end at 165HP... that's pretty sweet.  I'd guess that's also how some engines, like the 90HP 3cylinder Yamaha get away with badging that engine as a 90HP.  It's probably closer to 80HP

I have heard good and bad things about etec.  But those that own them love them.  I don't, but I would own an etec.  Where is the nearest/best service center for warranty work if needed?  I think the 150 would be a great fit for a 196.  There is only 40lbs difference between the 130 and 150.  So weight isn't much of a concern.  And fuel consumption should be similar.  See what you can get the best deal on.  My father drove to South Carolina to buy his.  He got a heck of a deal and didn't pay sales tax.
