The FL numbers are for registration purposes, like the license plate on a vehicle.  Boats also have a "Hull Indentification Number" referred to as "HIN".  I don't believe the HIN was required in 1972, but I could be mistaken. The HIN is typically found on the transom.

Do you have a title?  The title should have the HIN on it.

Possibly the 446th unit of that model or....
The 446th  of all hulls made at the Factory or...

Who knows? They started building hulls sometime around the late 60s so who's to say. I would think that due to the timeline, it would lean more toward the total hulls produced at that point. It would be nice to know for sure but I'm not certain we ever will.
Someone else here may have a tighter bearing on this. It would be interesting to know, at least for me anyway.

Good luck.

In 1972 a "Hull Indentification Number" was not required. The serial number is the number used to indentify aquasports prior to the legislation requiring an HIN.  At one time your boat would have had a plastic plate attached to the transom on the inside of the boat with the serial number. Over time yours may have been removed.
