"Deeper" Fish Finder for Android and iOS
« on: June 21, 2012, 01:43:24 PM »
I just ran across this on Facebook.  Looks useful- you can attach it to a fishing line and cast out to where you want to see fish/depth.  Also gives you temperature.  The connection is via bluetooth.

The website says you can get one now before the official release for $129.  After release (September), it's $200.  Anyone use one or know someone who's used one of these?

Looks neat but I kinda doubt your gonna get a bluetooth signal from 120' deep!  Unless it has a wire or something..

That's what it does.

Hummingbird makes one that uses a :*: Tracy wrist watch display but using your cell is neat too. If you can cast a good distance, I'd think your signal would be degraded. Bluetooth ain't like SSB.

Good point, and delivered in true CB form (read: hilarious)

I guess a Double "O" Seven Depth Finder is just too good to be true.  I was hoping someone had used one before I bought it and was disappointed.

I think BT range is like 15ft or something short like that.  I heard they were coming out with the next gen BT but don't remember them saying the range would be increased.  Been wrong before though
It would be good to use with a Ron Popiel Pocket Fisherman

You are right, I found this on mobileinfo.com:
Quote
Q: What is the range of Bluetooth transmitter/receivers?
A: Bluetooth is designed for very low power use, and the transmission range will only be 10m, about 30ft. High-powered Bluetooth devices will enable ranges up to 100m (300ft). Considering the design philosophy behind Bluetooth, even the 10m range is adequate for the purposes Bluetooth is intended for. Later versions of the Bluetooth spec may allow longer ranges.
