$1000 sounds right to me, maybe even $2000.

I'd go with Bob's figure...$2K, if the response is weak, drop down to $1600.  But don't let it go a week and then drop, give it some time.  Yes, the 235s are gas hogs, but a lot of power for $1500 to $2K is a good deal... :thumleft:

Depends on how clean it looks...  but I'd say a good running motor is worth at least $1500...   as already said put in on CL for $2000 or $1995 and see what happens.

Guys....pretend you're a buyer...would you buy an eighties 235 at 2K?

If so....pay 1K and make some money at $1600.

Or.. I'm wrong. In Florida maybe it will bring 2K. But not here.

We call those motors  "too thirsty fives"
Should be worth $1200-$1500 if it runs
Still cheap for that much power and lots of guys still run these old OMC motors as they are simple to work on and run forever.

The 235s were gas hogs and always ran a bit rough due to their design.  OMC took the 90 degree V-4 block and just added 2 cylinders to make the old V-6.     A 90 degree V-4 is pretty well balanced, but a 90 degree V-6 is not.   :(   You can make up for the imbalance with balance shafts or a split crankshaft, but OMC did not do that.  If you wind an early OMC V-6 up very tight - it will come apart.  But run them a bit rich, lots of oil, don't overheat, and keep the RPMs low and, like most marine engines, they will run for a long time with no real problems.   :thumleft:   What's interesting is that if you add 2 more cylinders to the V-6, you wind up with a 90 degree V-8 that is a very well balanced engine.  OMC did that with the 275/300 engines.  Those old V-8 OMCs were heavy and drank like a submariner on shore leave, but were smooth and powerful.  It would be interesting to see what would happen if you took that OMC V-8 (4 liter) engine today and made it direct injection.
