Cabin Door Replacement Ideas
« on: June 13, 2012, 09:04:40 PM »
Looking to replace the door for the opening into the v-berth:

Any initial thoughts or ideas?  I'm thinking starboard but plywood is a lot cheaper!!!

It needs to be watertight as far as hosing down and rain goes but should have some level of ventilation built in.  It came with some kind of finish laminated plywood which is delaminating.  Interestingly, the plywood door is piano hinged horizontally in the middle and lays perfectly into the grooves in the center v-berth position so it creates a full platform in there.  Not sure if that was original (or originally intended) but it's how it came when I bought it.  Just looking for feedback on how others have replaced these.
Thanks!  Dan

When I get a chance I will get a photo of the doors on mine
They are teak, original........well they are a little modified .... I ran thru em one time in the closed position trying to get to a bow rod while mooching for Chinook

Bill,
I've seen people walk through sliding screen doors before but wooden cabin doors?  Must have been the piscatorial version of buck fever!!!

I checked out a partial pic of yours in another thread.  I assume mine were replaced because it's plywood, piano hinged horizontally in the middle and dogged in place with stainless hatch locks that fit into holes cut in the inside door frame, kinda half ass.  I'll try to get some pics.  The interesting thing is the door fits perfectly into the center gap between the v-berths and there is a factory cutout exactly where the locks are so they can recess in.  It's almost as if the door is designed to become the center platform for the berth but that makes no sense to me since you would want the door for privacy if you were in there.  Anyways, hard to explain without pics so I'll get some later.
