Bruce,
That first pic...whose boat is that?  Never seen drains and a stern eye installed in a trim tab pocket...

OK to finish up this thread and for others who may follow here are some pics of the install.  I mounted the LSS-2 transducer on the center horizontal area of the step on a starboard wedge I made to keep the transducer parallel with the hull.  I had to trim some of the standard transducer a bit since the mounting area on the vertical step was only 3.5" tall.  I had to mount it a bit more starboard to clear the trailer bunk and keep it out of "view" of the side scan LSS-2.  Lowrance recommends the two transducers should be mounted within one foot of each other for the down scan overlay feature to work properly.  Mine ended up being 14" apart... close enough I hope.  I routed the cables into the hull thru a hole I drilled up inside the trim tab pocket.  This placed it up above the water line and it was easy to drill from inside the boat.  another plus of this  location is it is just fiberglass here and no new holes in the transom.  The main display was mounted on the dash and the structure scan module was mounted in the cabin on the aft wall.

I hope your guide poles are tight to the sides of your boat - my luck is I would keep landing on that 'ducer or knocking it "up" on every retrieve.

Yeah I thought of that.  The boat is sitting pretty tight to the port guide pole right now so I don't think it will move over much.  Since this trailer has a center set of bunks the boat centers itself really well once the bow hits so I think I'll be OK.  If it gives me trouble I have a service loop there to give me enough slack to move it if need be.
