Raising the deck

I am considering raising the deck on the project I'm working on to ensure that it will be self bailing. She is a 1973 hyro-step, built by the American Hydrofoil Corporation. I'm not sure if it is a good idea or how to go about it. If anyone has any suggestions on the idea they would be appreciated.

The Readers Digest version is cut the old deck out leaving a 3in border of the old deck around the edge.
Depending on the thickness of the new deck core. 1/2 or 3/4in add to the srringer's that much and lay the new deck core on top of the 3in border that you left. The deck will be 1/2in to 3/4in higher.

You don't want to go crazy here as you will be raising your CG point and the height of the washboard's will hit you lower on your leg's.

You can leave a 1in gap around the edge where the new deck will sit on the 3in section you left.  This will give you a slight channel around the outter edge to funnel water off the deck.
