That's a big fish in a kayak - especially if I'm in the kayak :D

I had a friend in Bradenton that hooked a big tarpon from his yak but said never again.  He said the tarpon was fun but the 5 mile paddle back up the beach to his truck was not so much fun.

The man that did the deed was an excellent fisherman.

Last fluke season, my wife and I were fishing in the Barnegat Bay when all of a sudden I noticed that a storm coming and coming quickly.  It had been threatening bad weather all day so I was only about a mile out at this time.  While we were fishing, I noticed a young man (approximately 16 years old) fishing off of his kayak and when it started getting rough, he and I knew that he might not get back as the storm was almost upon us      I attempted to attach a line to my boat pull him and the kayak but the chop and the wind were getting too strong and broke whatever on the kayak that he had tied onto.  So we eventually we got him and the whole kayak on board.  Once safely on board, the young man used my cellphone and called his mother who of course was losing her mind--her 16yo son is missing, possibly in a storm and now he called and said he's on some strange man's boat.  I just remember how crazy relieved she was when she saw him on that boat.  I asked the young man had he ever been out so far and he replied, "All the time, sometimes further than that." After the incident, I was so proud of my wife and my little boat but part of me always will wonder if that boy could have made it back to shore that day without us.  I was proud to be a boater that day
